President Donald Trump is under fire for pardoning the former Phoenix Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Friday.
Arpaio, 85, who served as sheriff of Maricopa County for 24 years, was convicted of criminal contempt of court for defying a judge's orders that he stop arresting immigrants on the suspicion that they were in the U.S. illegally.
Trump announced the pardon Friday night, just as the Texas Gulf Coast was bracing for impact from Category 4 Hurricane Harvey.
The president, whose approval rating is at historic lows, was quickly criticized on Twitter by Democrats in Congress.
Sally Yates, the former acting attorney general whom Trump fired earlier this year, tweeted that the pardon "reveals his own contempt for our Constitution."
But the president also heard criticism from lawmakers in his own party. Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, frequently a thorn in Trump's side, was among the most vocal critics. Trump pardoning the sheriff "undermines his claim for the respect of rule of law," McCain tweeted.
Jeff Flake, McCain's fellow Republican Arizona senator and a frequent target of Trump's ire, also took issue with the decision:
Meanwhile, Arizona governor Doug Ducey and congressman Andy Biggs are supporting the presidential pardon. Ducey said in a statement that Arpaio "deserves credit for helping to reduce crime in Maricopa County over his long career in law enforcement and public office."
As for the residents of Arizona, only 21 percent were in support of the pardon, according to a survey from last week.

Not a peep out of Traitor McCain over the pardon of Marc Rich or any of Obama’s criminals.
In 2018, Flake will be sent packing by the AZ voters, that is if he even decides to run for re-election.
As to McCain, I suspect that he will no longer be walking above ground when his seat comes up for election. If he still is above ground and does run, he also will be sent packing.
Lastly, long live Sheriff Joe, and thank you President Trump.
And, let us not forget, he pardoned Sheriff Joe for a MISDEMEANOR charge.

Don’t believe these Lying Leftist Media outlets that proved themselves during the 2016 campaign to be operatives of the DNC and intentional liars. They are presumed to be lying and we should presume what they publish is a lie. The presumption can only be rebutted with the outlet providing clear and convincing evidence they are not lying.
This is b/s piling on by the Lying Leftist media and Lying Leftist politicians like McCain. We should be mostly publishing the truth on FR, not the lies, and as much good news as possible to bolster morale. We should find and post reliable sources that have already deconstructed the lie and replaced it with the truth and with a headline that says the truth. We need much more of that on FR IMO. The key is the headline and the first few sentences because not everyone has time to drill down. The endless stream of negative, lying headlines sabotages our purpose IMO.

Not a big deal! Remember the laws odumbo broke and yet he was never even been charged. Any one of us would be in jail if we broke the laws odumbo and the Clinton’s have. Arpaio never even came close to the level of their crimes. Don’t tell me there is no double standard.

It seems as if he refuses to die so the devil took possession of his soul while he's still on earth. Sorry about my extreme view, I'm just not sure we've seen anything as close to pure evil from someone who keeps getting elected to office.
