Mike Pence for president, I say — president of the US Senate. It’s just the assignment for a pickle like this, when President Trump isn’t on speaking terms with his own party’s leader in the upper house.
Trump is understandably upset at the failure of the Senate to pass health-care and tax reforms. It’s gotten so bad with Mitch McConnell, according to CNN, that the two Republican titans have been cussing each other out.
Privately, The New York Times claims, McConnell has even been voicing doubts that the Trump presidency can be salvaged (not that the majority leader’s own approval rating in Kentucky is, at 18 percent, so hot).
In Phoenix Tuesday, Trump mercilessly mocked the state’s senior senator, John McCain, a lion of the president’s own Republican Party. That’s because McCain cast the deciding vote against ObamaCare repeal.
Trump also tore into Arizona’s other senator, Jeff Flake, another Republican. Plus, Trump has been feuding with GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
One might think that a president who is facing at least the possibility of impeachment would be more solicitous of such senators. If Trump were impeached, remember, the Senate would be the jury.
That’s not the Trump way, though. Heaven forfend. And this is where the tough but affable vice president ought to be able to help — and, as a bonus, make a long overdue constitutional correction.
You can even argue that, technically, the vice president isn’t even part of the executive branch. Unless the president quits, is ousted or dies, the veep’s only enumerated constitutional duty is to preside over the Senate.
So why does Pence need two offices in the White House — or even one? Why does he play the prop to Trump, introducing him at political rallies like he were a valet?

Trump can still be the superstar with Pence always on hand to make sure his agenda is being moved along.
Pence was supposed to be doing this all along. One of the reasons he was picked.
Pence isn’t like Trump. folks. He backed down on a major issue in Indiana instead of standing strong. He was right, and then blew it.
When the NY Slimes and the Chicken Noodle Network are your two sources for a story, you probably should rethink your story. In saying that, Mike Pence should be taking on a more active role with the Senate. He will be our next President.
What do you really think Pence can do? His leadership of the Senate is ceremonial. He has no power to organize anything.
And I was trying to be humorous. :)
I see tow major problems here:
First, the source is a never truth fake news fabricator of anything and everything to harm the President.
And second, McConnell is no Republican titan. He has a single digit favorable rating in his own state, not a titan a worm.
A worm who is the Senate Majority Leader. Nothing happens in the Senate without his say so.
I’ll say it again. Pence is not Trump. He is a congress critter mindset.
Pence could get browbeat out of half the accomplishments of Trump’s. Libs know it too. So do Mitch and his cohort Ryan.
The swamp dwellers are not accustomed to ass chewing, especially ass chewing
The presstitutes can’t handle it either.
Congress is afraid of the media. The fear prevents them from doing what is right for the country.
