I'm wondering why he didn't apply for DACA status. It seems to me that a lot of these people being deported didn't do the things they could've done to gain legal status.

This story doesn't even make any sense. If he has a scholarship, you'd think he could get a student visa to be an El Salvadoran citizen studying in the US.
