The first total solar eclipse in nearly a century not only has injected a much-needed sense of awe towards astronomy into our culture, but also has introduced a golden age of eclipse watching.

I'm getting fed up hearing about this 'first in a century' solar eclipse. There was a total eclipse in 1970. I was in sixth grade in NJ and remember it well. We made shadow viewers and watched it from the baseball field.

It looks like the 2024 solar eclipse will start around Taihiti, sweep diagonally across Mexico and the United States then finish in the Maritime provinces of Canada.

IIRC in the old days the jet set had the opportunity to charter the concorde sst to race along the eclipse track and bathe in totality for a good long time. I imagine it was a different experience way up high and looking out the windows of the supersonic concorde but one had that option back when it was flying. I’m sure you got some dom perignon to enjoy it with.

I’ll be about 175 years old then. I’ll probably be busy with something else.

The weather in San Antonio in April is nice.

From July 14 to August 26, it sucks. At least it did 30 years ago...

Since I live in South Florida, I will try to catch that one (if I am still around).

Methuselah? Is that you?

There is also an annular eclipse in Texas (San Antonio) on October 14th, 2023...So two good eclipses in Texas, two years in a row...

That will probably be my last one if I make it to then. We will try to watch from somewhere West of Hot Springs.

Here's an overlay of the paths of yesterday's eclipse & the next North American total in 2024.

(Save a copy now — before Goolag removes it, due to its similarity to "that" flag…)

Nicknamed "The Great North American Eclipse," 13 states will find themselves squarely within the narrow path of totality.

Will that one be racist too?

Yeah but, that is the best time to go tubing! April, not so much.

My sons and I drove down into South Carolina to see the Eclipse. Awesome.
Wish I could see another tomorrow.

2024 eclipse will go over one of my son’s home. Hope I’m alive to see it.
