Ship named after the crazy Senator McCain?
No, his grandfather and father, officially, but IMO should not have been done at least until the Senator was gone.
Was actually named after his father and grandfather. Both Navy Admirals I believe.
The thought of a USS John McCain turns my stomach.
Nope. From the Wikipedia:
This warship is named after John S. McCain, Sr., and John S. McCain, Jr., both Admirals in the United States Navy. John S. McCain, Sr., commanded the aircraft carrier USS Ranger, and acted as commander of the Fast Carrier Task Force during the latter stages of World War II. John S. McCain, Jr., commanded the U.S. Navy submarines USS Gunnel and USS Dentuda during World War II. Subsequently, he held a number of posts, rising to Commander-in-Chief of the United States Pacific Command before retiring in 1972. These men were the grandfather and father of Senator John S. McCain III.[2]
NO...his father.
Senator McCain = John Sidney McCain III, who is a former POW and never reached the rank of Captain or Admiral.
Admiral John Sidney McCain I was a WWII Admiral in the Pacific.
Admiral John Sidney McCain II was a Vietnam War era admiral (CINCPAC during the Vietnam War).
All I could think of is USS Forrestal.
Prayers up for Sailors and families.
No. Named after his grandfather. WW2 Admiral.
