Formaldehyde doesn’t actually cause cancer, but it does cause death if you come in contact with much of it.
It will make men sterile in a fairly short time.

Cancer? Death? Not sure what amount it would take to do either but it must be a lot. In 1965 I was the production manager in a plant that had a line of 50% formaldehyde circulating throughout. One night a fork truck driver hit the line and broke a flange. He didn’t tell anyone and we emptied a million pounds of formaldehyde into the basement. 50% when cooled to room temperature forms paraformaldehyde which is insoluble in anything. It took us several weeks to chip it out and haul it away. Meantime a leaky floor drain got a dose of the stuff into the City of Toledo sewer system killing the treatment bugs. Big mess it was. But nobody got sick or died and I’m sure we were all exposed to a lot more formaldehyde that the folks in this story.
