Jeh Johnson: Removal of Confederate Statues a Matter of ‘Homeland Security’
freebeacon ^ | August 20, 2017 | David Rutz

Former Obama administration official Jeh Johnson said the removal of Confederate statues was a matter of "public safety and homeland security" on Sunday.

In the aftermath of deadly violence in Charlottesville, Va., when a man with white nationalist ties was arrested for ramming his car into a crowd of counter-protesters last week and killing a woman, Confederate monuments across the country have been taken down. The furor in Charlottesville began with a protest by white supremacists against the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee.

Johnson served as Secretary of Homeland Security under Obama, and he said on ABC's "This Week" that the monuments to Confederates were helping to rally white nationalists.

"What alarms so many of us from a security perspective is that so many of the statues, the Confederate monuments, are now, modern-day, becoming symbols and rallying points for white nationalism, for neo-Nazis, for the KKK, and this is most alarming," Johnson said. "We fought a world war against Naziism. The KKK reigned terror on African Americans for generations."

"I salute those in cities and states who are taking down a lot of these monuments for reasons of public safety and security," he added. "And that's not a a matter of political correctness. That's a matter of public safety and homeland security and doing what's right."

Host Martha Raddatz said she felt the Trump administration would call that a "slippery slope," referring to local Washington locations like Washington-Lee High School and Jefferson Davis Highway.

"Where should that stop?" Raddatz asked.

Johnson said those kinds of decisions should be made at the local level.

President Donald Trump slammed the removal of such monuments as "foolish" and for ripping apart the "history and culture of our great country."

The Confederate soldiers, Generals and founders of this country didn’t go down to First and Main St. to find slaves...they went to Africa.

If the African Americans don’t want to acknowledge America’s histories, both positive and negative, let them tear down the statues and board the next plane for their homelands; because they otherwise wouldn’t be here.

*non racial comment.

Lame excuse. Any public space or monument could be a target for terrorists or extremists.

I have pondered the same question. It seemed that the identity only showed up a short time ago. The Media/Left needed some incendiary term to raise emotions. Note how it intends that only 'whites' are pushing 'nationalism'. 'Nationalism' by itself lacks the incendiary feature.

Late in the election cycle, Hillary started using the term Alt-Right. Most people had no idea what she meant. I just figured it was a late version of her 'vast right wing conspiracy', but Alt-Right did not really catch on.

Identity politics that is intended to lead to scorched earth and politics of personal destruction. Fearmongering.

We should tear down all the confederate monuments, just like we removed all the mosques after 9/11.

The term comes from Alt Left to describe Alt Left Nazi who are the originators of White Supremacy.

: ) That is my story and I am sticking to it.

Chances are his own ancestors selling off the tribe was how he is here. It’d be hilarious if other ancestors fought for the Confederacy. With his pale skin, he needs to check his privilege. IOW, he needs to shut up and go away.

Removal of the amazingly corrupt and stupid Jeh Johnson was a great homeland security move.

Your instinct is correct.

It’s an attempt to capture the language, conflating plain old nationalism with white supremacists.

It is borrowed from ‘black nationalism’, most recently closely identified with the black Nation of Islam.

I think the term “white nationalism” was invented recently by the media. The same media who decided George Zimmerman was a “white Hispanic” in the Trayvon Martin case.

It didn’t comport with their template of whites killing innocent blacks when they learned that Zimmerman was really Hispanic. So they decided to call him a “white Hispanic”.

It’s the same mindset which has invented this term “White Nationalist”, which none of us had ever heard of a couple of weeks ago. Now it’s all over the media because the media are pushing that concept.

The removal of jeh johnson as the head of the department of homeland security was definitely “homeland security”. To think these small-brained, affirmative-action losers are seem by some as “leaders”. Sheesh! It make you want to vomit.

Remove the Democrat Party as it is the party of slavery, the KKK and suppression of civil rights. It is the party of the Old South that created the Civil War to continue keeping Blacks as slaves.

That is the answer. Every time the media or anybody else asks publicly for the removal of this or that your argument for the removal of the Democrat party should be brought up emphasizing the reasons why.

But who will do this when asked? Certainly not elected members of the Republican party since they collectively do not possess a nanogram of testosterone.

He was incompetent as DHS Secretary, why should be be surprised that he is still incompetent.

The new Progressive approach seems to be “If you don’t agree with me, we will let them kill you and you will only have yourself to blame for not agreeing with me”.

It is applying to statues today, conservative groups tomorrow, and Constitutional thought the day after tomorrow.

These people, democracy having failed them despite their overwhelming corruption, are now simply saying “vote for us and our ideas or we will kill you”

Jeh wants you compliant or dead.
