Definitions: (3) The term “Civil War veteran” includes a person who served in the military or naval forces of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War, and the term “active military or naval service” includes active service in those forces

One of the concepts I learned about in my military studies was

THE GOLDEN BRIDGE.

This is the concept that you allow your opponent to quit the fight.

You don’t make your opponent fight to the death because then it’s just really ugly. They’ll come at you with rocks.

After four years of butchery, both sides were ready for the war to be over.

The Union leaders offered the Confederate Soldiers and civilians a Golden Bridge to stop the butchery. The Confederates accepted this Golden Bridge.

I think that part of this Golden Bridge was that they could respect their military leaders.

Can you imagine what would have happened if the Union made this a fight to the death?

I think we’d have had guerilla warfare on a large scale for years.

But we didn’t.

The Union gave the Confederates a Golden Bridge and we have stood united against our enemies since then.

These statues are respect from the families for their warriors.

Leave them alone.

Otherwise, we, as victors (and my family wasn’t in this fight) have broken our pledge to provide a Golden Bridge.

Any statues honoring or celebrating slavery should be removed.
