How Do Trump’s Black Friends Feel? It’s Complicated
New York Times ^ | August 17, 2017 | YAMICHE ALCINDOR and MAGGIE HABERMAN

WASHINGTON — Kara Young, a biracial model who dated Donald J. Trump for two years before he married another model named Melania Knauss, remembers clearly bringing up her race with the real estate tycoon early in their relationship. As with so many issues, he steered the conversation to celebrity.

“I didn’t hide my race from Donald Trump. He knew,” Ms. Young said in a rare interview. “He would say, ‘You’re like Derek Jeter.’ And I would say, ‘Exactly.’”

“I never heard him say a disparaging comment towards any race of people,” she added.

The furor that Mr. Trump has created with his equivocation over the violence this weekend at a white supremacist march in Charlottesville, Va., has refocused attention on the president’s complex relationship with matters of race. Long before he embarked on his improbable political career, he had courted racial controversy, calling for the death penalty for five black and Latino teens who were later shown to have been wrongly convicted of a rape in Central Park, settling a Justice Department suit that charged the family business with housing discrimination and falsely accusing the nation’s first black president of being born in Kenya. Beyond dating a biracial model, he made outsize efforts to hang out publicly with African-American celebrities: the boxing promoter Don King, the hip-hop impresarios Kanye West, Russell Simmons and Sean Combs, and celebrities as big as Muhammad Ali, James Brown and Michael Jackson.

But more than ever, the question is being asked: Is Mr. Trump personally racist?

The few African-Americans in his inner circle respond with an emphatic no....

“A racist does not pick a single black mother to represent his entire freaking presidential campaign,” Ms. Pierson said. “A racist would not endorse Jesse Jackson’s presidential campaign in the ’80s twice. A racist would also not spend his time and his resources to bring African-Americans into Wall Street.”

Mr. Wallach recalled Mr. Trump telling a colleague at the company to apologize to Mr. Wallach for an anti-Semitic comment once.

This was actually a VERY favorable article by the NYT. The fact that Maggie Haberman wrote this, as she really doesn't like trump, as shocking to me. The good part is that liberals will read this because this is a trusted source to them.

Oh lookie the leftwing nuts are back to the DJT and his supporters are white nationalists/racists again. Worked so well for 18 months of the campaign.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Maybe the NYT should take a gander at a couple of recent polls showing the majority of Americans do not support removing of Confederate landmarks etc.
Out of touch elitist alert.

“. As with so many issues, he steered the conversation to celebrity.”

So there is no correct answer for Donald Trump.

Kara Young, a biracial model who dated Donald J. Trump for two years before he married another model named Melania Knauss

According to Malinia's convention speech, she was already dating Trump when he was still married to Marla Maples, and he was dating Marla Maples before he divorced Ivana. So, presumably, he was dating Kara Young while he was married to Marla Maples?

It doesn’t matter to the “liberals” (communists) that read that print blog. Calling him a racist isn’t about whether they actually believe him to be a racist in his personal life. It’s about trashing him for political gain.

You look at the racist, hate church that Obama attended -
slurping up all of Jeremiah Wright’s bile for 20 years and calling him his “spiritual mentor”, and it tells you all you need to know about their warped perception of race.

I’ve never believed that Donald Trump cared about anyone’s race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion. He seems to care only about their personal interactions with himself.

Maybe he was “dating” Kara and Melania at the same time ... but who keeps up with that stuff?

Seems to me that all his former wives and girlfriends have nothing bad to say about him. Ivana had a few moments of classlessness during her divorce, but she recanted publicly and they now seem to be friendly, although she tends to stay in Europe.

I doubt there is one intelligent, creative, successful person of any race, ethnicity or gender who isn’t layered and complicated. Not all of them are nice. Donald seems to be nice.
