Local NAACP President: Unrest Senseless, Confederate Statues Not Problem
WFMZ ^ | Aug 16, 2017 | Joy Howe

They stood together on the steps at Bethlehem's City Hall a group of government and spiritual leaders and members of the community who said they had to do something.

"I think it's all senseless. All senseless," begins Bethlehem NAACP President Esther Lee.

Lee says the images that she's seen over the last few days, have been tough to watch.

"You know, we're 108 years in as NAACPers and we might think things would improve, but they do not. You know we still have this factor about black and white," she tells us.

She continues, "What does that have to do with it? I bleed red blood."

Stephanie Hnatiw, the Executive Director of the YWCA, Bethlehem tells 69 News, "We're not going to tolerate what happened in Virginia. It's not going to happen here. We have good people here, we won't let it."

But Lee says violence is still violence. She doesn't agree with the vandalism of Confederate monuments in Baltimore or condone the actions of those who tore down the statue in North Carolina, either.

"You know that's history. That was in that point in time. You can't eliminate what history is. So I disapprove with young people pulling down those statues," she says.

Lee then adds, "A young woman died. Two officers were murdered in a plane crash and all for what? Because somebody in their mind decided, “we don't need to look at that anymore.”

"It shouldn't be," she says softly.

President Trump weighed in on the question about taking Confederate statues down by saying, "This week, it's Robert E. Lee. I noticed that Stonewall Jackson is coming down. I wonder is it George Washington next week? Is it Thomas Jefferson the week after? You know, you do really have to ask yourself where does it stop?"

While Lee doesn't agree with President Trump on everything, she does think that history should be left to stand and advises others to join her in praying for the president.

"I would pray that he would gain the strength to do what's necessary in the job, at least for these four years," she says.

Lee says maybe things aren't what they should be. But that doesn't mean hate and hurt need to win.

She says, instead, what we should do, is widen our circle of compassion.

One leader asked the crowd to join him in repeating a phrase: "Love overcomes violence every day."

Officials across the country are now looking into removing confederate monuments in their own cities and towns.

In Pennsylvania, a spokeswoman for Gettysburg National Military Park says they haven't received any complaints about their hundreds of monuments and markers and she says they have no plans to remove anything memorializing Confederates leaders or soldiers.

For the folks that like to fan the flames of unrest and violence, the conversation has to be about race. It cannot be about anything else. Because for them, and everyone else, it’s the easiest way to point to division. White vs Black.

But, it isn’t about White vs Black....Black vs White...not anymore. And I don’t think the MSM, the Left want or can talk about what it has mutated into.

This whole thing, all of it, is about the cultural differences between hardworking people that just want to live their lives and opportunists, radicals, criminals, manipulators(Soros), that need this chaos to perpetuate their existence. Just look at how Omarosa was treated at the event she was invited to, to speak about how she dealt with the loss of her family members.

http://nation.foxnews.com/2017/08/14/omarosa-people-think-i-should-align-dems-because-im-black-i-felt-ambushed-nabj-convention

That guy wouldn’t give her a chance to speak because she probably would have mopped the floor with him and that would have ruined his night.

This isn’t about race anymore, The cultural divide between the sides is what’s really driving this country down the toilet. It’s started before I was born and has been gaining steam for over 50 years. These corporate types that abandoned the President, did so because they allowed themselves to be bullied by millennial, that don’t work and/or get paid to protest and destroy things.

But, that conversation needs to be had between adults and there aren’t enough of them in the room that either want to talk about or can talk about it.

Well... with the current liberal mindset and with the last name of Lee she just might be declared as having racist roots. Just like cotton would become a racist symbol and be outlawed for use.

All the huge improvement in race relations we’ve had over the past few decades just completely thrown out the window by Barack Obama and his odious left. I hope and pray that there’s a special place in hell for these people.

She’ll soon be branded by the fascist BLM and antifa as an ‘Oreo’, Brown on the outside and white on the inside.

Maybe Lord protect her from all the verbal diarrhea she will receive from the insanely rabid left.

Obama’s presidency showed no matter how far they reached, a large percentage of blacks were never going to compete with non-blacks (especially non-white foreigners who arrive with no command of the English language). They can either “man up” and expect more of themselves, or they can pretend old white men who died over a century ago are to blame for their current woes.

A woman of uncommon common sense. History is what it is.
If you choose to keep only what you like that’s not history it’s ideology.

I think a lot of these intelligent black leaders -- even avowed leftists -- recognize the idiocy of spending an ounce of energy and political will to deal with symbols of a Confederacy that hasn't existed in more than 150 years and statues of white men who died more than a century ago.

They know that this whole charade says more about the people demanding the removal of these symbols than it does about those defending them ... and what it says about those demanding the removal of them is humiliating.

I am sick & tired of all the ‘racism’ charges being placed against whites.

The blacks are far more racist than the whites I know. The whites are far more tolerant & the blacks are far more aggressive.

That MAY change very soon.
