Climate Change Threatens Sea Turtles, Researchers Say
The Weather Channel ^ | August 14, 2017 | By Ada Carr

Migrating sea turtles encountering cold waters around Cape Cod are being rendered unable to swim and are becoming stranded on beaches. Researchers believe warming temperatures on the beaches are posing a threat to the turtles' nests.

Researchers believe climate change is playing a role in stranding the animals by creating warmer waters in the North Atlantic that attract the turtles. Global warming is also creating potential threats to the turtles on land. Scientists are concerned that beaches where turtles go to lay eggs will erode, and intensifying storms will wipe nests out. They are also concerned that warming beaches will cause more eggs and hatchlings to die.

hey are also concerned that warming beaches will cause more eggs and hatchlings to die.

Eggs end up "essentially cooking" when a nest becomes too warm, NOAA fishery biologist Vincent Saba [said].

Nest temperatures around 95 degrees Fahrenheit are deadly for turtle embryos, according to a previous study. Hatchlings that make it to the surface on a particularly hot day can die in the scalding sands.

Warmer conditions also play a role in the animals' male-to-female ratio. Because the sex of a turtle is determined by the temperature in which it is incubated, scientists are concerned climate change will alter the ratio of males to females, according to Popular Science. The warmer the nest, the higher the chance of a female being hatched.

Ask the sea turtles if they care.

Turtles have been here for 200,000,000 years. Sea turtles (superfamily Chelonioidea), sometimes called marine turtles,[3] are reptiles of the order Testudines. The seven extant species of sea turtles are: the green, loggerhead, Kemp's ridley, olive ridley, hawksbill, flatback, and leatherback.

Bull$hit like this article is to laugh.

Let's see, sea turtles have been around for about 120 million years.

My money says that sea turtles will still be around long after the Weather Channel has gone off the air, the esteemed journal "Popular Science" has descended forever into chapter 7 insolvency and the author of the article, one Ada Car is dead, long forgotten and has left no fossil of her own.

John Coleman must be heartbroken at the turn his Weather Channel has taken. He does not believe that changes in the weather are human caused. I WISH that actual scientists would reclaim the spotlight and TELL THE TRTUH. The Climate Change cabal just wants to bankrupt this country by sending lots of money elsewhere. Prayers that the TRUTH will win.

Please then, Ada, explain the survival of sea turtles that routinely nest on Florida beaches.

Climate change hysteria is so ridiculous.

All you need is “COMMON SENSE” to know that man made climate change is IMPOSSIBLE!

On the same subject, man’s/human’s ability to affect the global climate, as in “fix it”, is IMPOSSIBLE!

I guess it must be people’s myopic view of the world. They must have never looked out the window of a jetliner. They must have never crossed the ocean on a ship. They must have never contemplated anything larger than their navels.

The world is YUGE! I mean ENORMOUS! Man/humans are tiny, insignificant, inconsequential.

How could man/humans have ANY, I mean ANY, effect on “GLOBAL” climate? For good or bad.

Ants, termites etc. have a bigger affect on the planet than man/humans ever could.

Man/human made climate change ISN’T HAPPENING. It’s just not possible.

Sea turtles are doing fine in FL where it is warmer than Cape Cod.

Go figure.

Warmer - our fault.
Cooler - our fault.
It's been going on for millions of years and wildlife adapted successfully many times - irrelevant.

The warmer the nest, the higher the chance of a female being hatched.

....So, we'll get more females, that will lay more eggs, that means we'll have more little turtles.

Logic, apparently, isn't one of the climate idiots' strong points.

What they’re really, really concerned about is losing their government grants for writing these stupid reports. If the ocean is too cold, and the land is too warm, what are a bunch of egg-head government employees going to do about it? They are as inconsequential as the aboriginals doing their rain dances to end drought.

Global warming is heating the ocean water of Cape Cod making it too cold for the turtles to swim which strands them on the beach which is too hot for their nests (which are usually in Florida). Sounds legit.

So? 99.9% of all species that ever existed on this planet are extinct.

Adapt or die.
