I can’t find where the son was disowned.

Can you help me out?

dis·own

verb

refuse to acknowledge or maintain any connection with.
"Howard's rich family had disowned him because of his marriage"

synonyms: reject, cast off/aside, abandon, renounce, deny;

From the story: "The father of a North Dakota man who marched in a white-nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, this past weekend has denounced his son's behavior, saying he 'is not welcome at our family gatherings any longer.'"
...seems pretty obvious to me...

The younger Tefft must be thinking win-win.

The father didn’t say anything about not being part of the family anymore, just not welcome at gatherings.

Your standards are far too low.
