I had an awakening this weekend when I watched a documentary on the gangster John Dillinger. It seems an up-and-coming, power-seeking low-level government LEO named J.Edgar Hoover planted false news stories in the papers about members of the gang (Red Hamilton) to keep the people stirred up and fearful of bank robbers and murderers around every corner.

Goes to show that using the media to spread a false narrative (lies and propaganda) is not a new tactic, only being refined for the current technology and uses...
