What is your contribution to this list of 15 foil hacks?

Need a baking pan that is just the "right" size?

Invert a pan or object with the "right" size and press multiple layers of foil around the object.

After crimping the edges, remove the hand-moulded object and it is ready for baking that "right-sized" cake.

Again, what is your suggestion?

It has been rumored that Blackberries surrounded in foil will prevent the AWAN brothers from reading the contents of the emails.

I don’t refer to things made of conductive metals as a “fantastic insulator”.

And there is no such thing as a “wrong sized cake” ;-)

I always get those big boxes of foil at Sams, or Costco. It lasts for years and is that good heavy duty foil.

Don’t forget to write the date on the box. When you run out and throw the box away it’s cheap amusement to see when you opened with the box, a poor boy’s time capsule.

My suggestion is for the author to learn the correct use of the word “hack”.

Back in the day, we used foil and tv wire to get free cable. You sometimes needed two tvs so one could pick up the sound while the other got you a fuzzy picture.

Crush foil into a ball and use it to clean your grill. Cuts right through the baked on grease.

I melt butter on my serving plate in the microwave, then coat one side of bread slices, and place the bread slices on a precut sheet of foil under the broiler in the oven to get buttered toast. Then after It’s done, I just place it on the serving platter. There’s only the single dish to clean up.

I also use precut sheets of foil as the “pan” to bake canned biscuits.

Because foil doesn’t absorb heat, I don’t even need a potholder to remove the end product from the oven.

My contribution: Next time you are at COSTCO (or similar) buy this:

The small sheets (12" x 10 3/4") are good for about 75% of my foil needs, they are handy, little waste and less expensive.

I line the paint roller pan with foil. Makes cleanup a lot easier.

The funnel suggestion from the article isn’t bad either, at least in a pinch.

It can be used for proton dosimetry if the protons are over 30 MeV. Expose the foil to the proton beam, then put it in a HPGe scintillator and look for Na24 gamma photons. Determine the amount of Na24 that was created at exposure time, and using the cross section, calculate how many protons hit the foil. This method avoids the obvious problems using CaF2:Mn as it’s not sensitive to beam photons.
