In their barracks at the military academy an hour north of New York City, cadets huddled around radios each night to learn if Armageddon was at hand. On Oct. 22, they listened intently as President John F. Kennedy delivered a stern address on the rapidly spiraling crisis.

“It shall be the policy of this nation to regard any nuclear missile launched from Cuba against any nation in the Western Hemisphere as an attack by the Soviet Union on the United States, requiring a full retaliatory response upon the Soviet Union,” Kennedy warned.

Among the cadets at the academy in that fraught, fear-filled autumn was a 16-year-old junior named Donald J. Trump.

Good.

They are finally starting to figure out that the serious and realistic threat of overwhelming force is the only correct answer, which worked before and one would expect that it should work in this instance also.

North Korea is nothing like the Cuban Missile Crisis.

North Korea is a tiny, unstable and isolated country on the cusp of developing an offensive nuclear capability and becoming a major player in nuclear proliferation.

If North Korea is not dealt with now, the world will pay a heavy price as rouge terror states become nuclear powers

Hell...Obama said it best (after stealing the line from “The Untouchables”)...”...they bring a knife, you bring a gun.” (paraphrasing)

If someone poses a threat, hit first, hit hard, and don’t apologize.

It’s the only way to take out a bully, or, a dictator.

If North Korea is not dealt with now....

Now?? We've had 28 years of Presidents who've been blowing up stable governments all over Europe, the Mideast, and even in parts of Africa. They've ignored South America and let thugs from Central America and Mexico successfully invade the US. The past 24 years they've been lazy, not seeming to have much regard for future repercussions of choosing the wrong priorities. Not because they posed a threat, but because it benefitted the global agenda. We've demonized the likes of Assad, Khadaffi, Putin, the former Egyptian government....all of whom never attacked us.

President Trump signed on to an incredible mess that needs to be unraveled. It's possible it could be civilization-ending if the DC Swampthings continue to put their jealousies and the agenda of their deep-pocket owners ahead of solving the problems Western Civilization faces.

Did Saddam have wmd? Not proven but did W have the freedom/responsibility to think otherwise? The left will accuse US of feeding Halliburton again. We have to let them launch the first attack. These reports of hitting Guam would be questioned. Move the 28k troops first. Tat will send a message to EVERYONE.

I confess I was a bit concerned about Trump’s wording until I realized who he was talking to. It is an old negotiating tactic. You mimic the guy on the other side of the table.

We have spent quite a journey traveling the globe with military adventures the reasons for are not my issue. It just seems so typical that all of sudden we get gun shy. This has to end now. Maybe it would take a “USS Maine Incident” although the Pueblo was disgracefully ignored. How many times could I or my family be threatened with a gun and let it continue? At this point,I am going Charlie Bronson,Chuck Norris and Dirty Harry.

Beautifully stated! Any halfwit could see this coming as three Presidents kicked the Nork nuclear can down the road -- yes, I include Dubya.

We're poised on the brink of global devastation unless some degree of sanity prevails in Washington, Moscow and Beijing. It's like one of those lines of dominos and all that's needed is one incident to topple the first one in line to set off a series of world-changing reactions. The tragedy is that this could have been avoided by decisive American action 25 years ago.

This is very much like the Cuban Missile Crisis

Russia is China
Cuba is North Korea

Russia supplied Cuba
China supplies North Korea

The problem today is we cannot blockade N.Korea as easily as we could blockade Cuba. To do that we have to take on the real source of the problem.....Communist China.

Everyone is getting whipped up by the media and Trump’s tweets, calm down. This hysteria is nonsense and downright dangerous.

Too many headline readers are completely ignorant of the NK capabilities. NK must be having a big laugh at all our headlines.

The most powerful NK missile, only in theory, could reach about Kansas City, with no payload bigger than a jar of kimchee.

They would have to have another missile stage added on to provide more fuel in boost.

Their best missiles so far are all “truck” launched. They don’t have a truck big enough for a bigger missile. If they did, a bigger heavier missile would get damaged joyriding around NK.

They would have to go to a silo launch with onsite liquid fueling. That’s what every other nuclear power does that wants nukes delivered.

NK has no silos, if they did we would know. Also, all of their orbital apogee missiles have burned up on re-entry, they don’t have adequate heat shields, yet.

Let’s all calm down.
