US defense chief warns North Korea that it risks the 'destruction of its people'
The Manchester Guardian ^ | August 9, 2017 | Julian Borger in Washington and Justin McCurry in Tokyo

The US defense secretary, James Mattis, has warned the North Korean regime that it risked the “end of its regime and the destruction of its people” if it attacked Washington or its allies, as an eruption of brinksmanship from both sides rattled the region.

Mattis’s Wednesday reminder to Pyongyang that the allied militaries “possess the most precise, rehearsed and robust defensive and offensive capabilities on Earth”, capped an unprecedented 24 hours of sabre-rattling sparked by Donald Trump’s surprise threat to rain “fire and fury” down on the Pyongyang regime.

The defense secretary, however, couched his remarks in the language of traditional deterrence, making clear that such overwhelming force would be used in the event of a North Korean attack.

Trump – without consulting his own security staff – had warned of a devastating onslaught “like the world has never seen” if Kim Jong-un’s government simply persisted in threats against the US. But that line was crossed within hours when Pyongyang announced it was “carefully examining” a plan for a missile strike an “enveloping fire” around the US Pacific territory of Guam.

The US secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, also spent much of the day struggling to contain the fall-out from Trump’s threats on Tuesday, assuring Americans they could “sleep well at night”, and reassuring shocked allies that there was “no imminent threat of war”(continued)

Kim doesn’t care about his people anyway. Kim only cares for himself.

“North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States,” Trump told reporters at his golf resort in Bedminster, N.J., warning that Pyongyang would be “met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.”

Ok so what is so controversial about this statement? Hasn't that been the talking point since WWII directed at any and all those who threaten the USA?

...capped an unprecedented 24 hours of sabre-rattling...

I guess the writers & editors at the Manchester Guardian have spent all of their lives sitting around the campfire, eating s'mores and singing "Kumbaya". They definitely never have kept up with current events nor have studied the history of ANY period!

...and Seoul. Stuff is about China anyway, due to that entity letting the leash become looser. In any event, Truman thought short-term with N. Korea/China and Nixon should have never went “to China” in the first place. Truman had a great excuse (War fatigue), but Nixon thought we could assimilate China into the West (England nudging that idea as well). Benevolent concessions and reading too much into things, especially if you are a superior power, are means of a future defeat.

So the people at the Guardian think Kim cares if his people are destroyed?

"WHY WAIT till we’re attacked."

President Trump has to give the Crazy Little Fat Kid (CLFK) the first shot simply because President Trump can't shoot unless we're fired on. To shoot first, President Trump would need a "Declaration of War" from Congress, and the CLFK knows Congress wouldn't give our President the time of day, so the CLFK runs his mouth, impresses his people who think the U.S.A doesn't strike them out of fear of the CLFK.

If, due to their threats, President Trump requests Congress to Declare War on North Korea, and Congress issues the Declaration, the CLFK will surely cease with his threats to attack the U.S.A. With a state of war existing between the U.S.A. and North Korea, President Trump can demand that the CLFK get rid of his nukes or we'll get rid of them for him, and the CLFK will know it's not an empty threat.

If Congress refuses to help President Trump eliminate this threat to the American people, we'll know who our real enemy is, and it's not the CLFK.

Nixon opened up to China in order to further isolate the Soviet Union. On that front he was very successful.

I read Henry Kissinger’s two books on his time serving in the Nixon administration. While a lot of people despise Kissinger he had some pretty insightful thoughts relative to today.

1. Democrat always wanted to negotiate with Communists and give concessions. Communists viewed this as a sign of weakness and pushed for even greater concessions. He said the only way to negotiate with them was from a position of strength. This is still true today.

2. There is an inherent clash between the Department of State and the West Wing. State thinks they are in control regardless of whomever the president is. I think this is also still true today.

Trump just put the world on notice. The USA will not be threatened.

This should prove to the world that Trump is not Putin’s puppet. Even the Russians are shaking in their shoes right now. Not Trump. He is decisive and has nerves of steel.

Where’s McCain, Jeb ,Cruz, hiding under their beds too with CNN?

Cruz has been in Trump’s corner since November 9th. Those other two are rushing to microphones to complain.

Attacking North Korea would be a mistake. NK is a puppet of China. China has demonstrated undetectable subs, surprising us by surfacing in the middle of US exercises. The missiles being launched by NK are being supplied to NK. NK has bragged about turning US cities to ash. NK been goading us. We should not allow ourselves to be prodded into the actions China desires.

I don’t blame the 20 year old German Waffen SS soldier fighting on the Russian front in 1944. He had been raised on Nazi propaganda since he was in the Hitler Youth, and was trained to be the tool of an evil despotic regime. However, in order to destroy that regime, he and many more like him had to be killed. And his master didn’t care that he was just grist for the mill.

And so it is with the North Korean people. I feel sorry for them, but if necessary to destroy Kim, a lot of them are going to have to die.
