Well, we got an open seat coming up, but I shudder who (or what) comes next.

Paul Tsongas, what a blast from the past. Rush Limbaugh always called him Paul Taxongas, because ironically enough, the main plank of his presidential run was a large tax on gas. Nobody took him seriously after the “Taxongas” label was applied...

Any decent (MA) Republican possibilities in the district? (I moved out of state almost 15 years ago.)

I just remember when Al Franken did an impersonation of Tsongas back on SNL way back.

A guy named Scott Gunderson is running for the R nom...

Scott Alan Gunderson was born to a hardworking, rural Wisconsin family in 1969. Lacking a family with the money to put him through college, Scott enlisted in the Navy in 1987 for experience and in order to receive an education. In 1989 Scott received a nomination to the United States Naval Academy from the Secretary of the Navy. Follow link to more...

My memory, besides the reminder of TaxOnGas, was his “acceptance speech’ when he won the primary (NH I think). He made some nonchalant statement and some beyotch, maybe his wife” started screaming and applauding.

And few followed. It was embarrassing

Not too impressive—running for Congress and complaining that under-funding of MA public schools is an issue he’ll address? Being pro-Israel is his first-listed issue?

But so is the GOP in MA. Still, I wonder if a better candidate could and will come forward.

May have been Paul Tsongas who nicknamed Bill Clinton “pander bear” or other way round

Capitol Steps song parody to Sounds of Silence
Hello voters my old friends,I’ll give my
speech to you again
The message in it is so boring, I just begin it and you’re snoring
Because the words you can profit from are written by a dweebish nerd, what you’ve heard
Are echoes of the sounds of Tsongas

Wonder why you’ve never seen, my face on People Magazine..

Probably just trying to walk the tight wire, keep balance, as many R’s do here in MA. Another factor is political inexperience, without having Trump’s assets.

But still, his chances improve significantly (relatively) with an open seat. The ‘Rats will most certainly put up a replacement, which will determine how viable or unviable the ‘R’ becomes.

So was Tsongas’s retirement anticipated—or are additional players likely to join the game now?

And that district of course is not beyond GOP reach.

She represents a mainly blue-collar white district that some how votes Rat by 2 to 1 margins.

Could it be that an investigation in to voter fraud has influenced her decision to retire?

Tsongas retirement was rumored over perhaps the last 2 election cycles (she is 71 this year). There was a liberal ‘Rat that was quick to get on the Tucker Carlson show a few months ago, who is a State Sinator within her district. Carlson gave him national media attention - he’s the principal for legislation to turn MA into a sanctuary state. He ran before, I believe when Tsongas was running for the open seat, and came in third.

Zoe Lofgren gave Hillary the middle finger when Hillary announced that it was time for Zoe to retire and hand her seat over to Chelsea

Guess Hillary reneged on all the promises she made to Zoe to get her to step aside and let Hillary have Moynihans Senate seat

Her district was combined with half of Peter Blute’s old district when we lost a seat in congress.

Ha—that’s a blast from the past.

I don’t suppose he’d be up for trying to run for his old seat again?

I’m pretty sure it was Paul Tsongas who came up with “Pander Bear”.

I figure there must be a random Kennedy that can be carpetbagged into the seat.
