Congressman Mo Brooks responded this morning to President Trump's endorsement of Sen. Luther Strange in Alabama's special election for the Senate.
"I respect President Trump, but I am baffled and disappointed Mitch McConnell and the Swamp somehow misled the President into endorsing Luther Strange," Brooks said in a press release.
Brooks, a Republican from Huntsville, suggested Trump is unaware of the circumstances of Strange's appointment by former Gov. Robert Bentley and Strange's support for maintaining Senate filibuster rules, which some say jeopardize the Trump agenda.
"Perhaps President Trump is unaware that Luther Strange wants to keep the Senate's 60 percent rule that empowers Chuck Schumer and the Democrats to kill the entire conservative, Republican, and President Trump legislative agendas," Brooks said.

Perhaps Trump thinks that will make Turtlehead nicer to him.
Quit thinking like that Donald. Take Turtle’s damn health subsidy away from him.
I suppose we should praise this 17D underwater chess move?
Bad move by President Trump. Mr. Strange is a swamp creature.
This endorsement has the appearance of a political deal with McConnell in order to pass legislation (Obamacare repeal?). Time will tell.
Surely by now Trump has learned the turtle cant be trusted. Many baffling things going on lately.
No. Two realities that Freepers don’t want to get:
Trump’s hold on the presidency is still tenuous. They are looking for ANY reason to impeach. Be can’t (one year out from an election) alienate any sitting senator.
2. Strange has voted right. Trump can’t say, “Well you voted right but I know what’s in your heart.” That won’t fly.
And a Tea Party candidate would easily get elected in Alabama.
Maybe in that case it would have been better not to tweet his support for anyone. Let the R’s fight it out.
My vote will go to Mo. August 15th.
Luther might be better than a Democrat . . . but I won’t cast a vote for him regardless of Trump’s support.
Remember, that rule cuts both ways. If the commies get back in power we may need it.
Rhetorical question: why should he choose Strange over Moore? Has not Moore shown his muster? Strange summons up nun other than Strange Love and Sellers.
PDT must have reasons we do not comprehend as yet.
Please explain?
I agree. Trump is a team player. No one can say he’s not. McConell asks for his support, and he gets it. If the other guys win, then that’s good too. If he supports the other guys and they lose, then Strange is no longer beholding to Trump.
Good political move to support the guy who’s been in office, and has shown support for the Trump agenda.
Moore sounds like a flake, and I don’t know the other guy.
If you're talking about alienating McConnell, how do you balance the desire of "supporting McConnell so he'll support you" with the potential of adding a Senator who might weaken McConnell's grip on leadership?
Wouldn't Trump want more Republican Senators who might vote for a new party leader? Wouldn't it be a better influence on McConnell if he sees his own base in the Senate diminishing?
McConnell is a fair-weather friend, at best.

Brooks as a known entity in the House may be better for Trump if he stays there.
Moore will be a magnet for controversy.
With the endorsement of Strange he gets some support from the Turtle (regardless if we like, he is there now).
Mo Brooks is the Congresscritter from the Huntsville area aka Rocket City USA . . . he was our District Attorney for many years. No scandals surrounding him that I know of.
vs Big Luther came in under suspicious circumstances in regards to disgraced ex Gov Bentley.
Moore . . . he comes across to me . . . as an old school fire & brimstone preacher . . . not a U.S. Senator.

Yes, Appointing Yurtle’s wife as Sec of Transportation didn’t help get any support from McConnell. Supporting his establishment swamp dweller for Senate isn’t going to do anything except stack the deck higher against Trump.

What is it that Trump thinks he can turn Ryan/McConnell after these past 6 months? Trump may think he struck a deal with Mitch Turtle, STILL a bad move, though. Doesn’t compute. WHY do we need another McConnell creature in the ineffective Congress?
How many times Republican voters have been promised the ride? “Give us more $$$$, give us more vote, give us more congress critters, yada yada yada, then we promise we will do this and that......”
The Swamp is all about shady deal-making and enriching yourself. The Donald has a lifetime of shady deal-making and enriching himself. Sounds like a match made in Hades. Seriously, how did Trumpcult not realize that when a guy says he is the greatest deal-maker ever and you send him to the greatest deal-making sewer in existence, you get... deal making.
