President Trump’s chief counsel John Dowd secretly sent a message to Special Counsel Robert Mueller in relation to his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Despite his public disapproval, President Trump actually feels good about the investigation.
USA Today reports:
President Trump has publicly called the widening federal investigation into Russia’s election meddling a “witch hunt.” But through his lawyer, Trump has sent private messages of “appreciation” to special counsel Robert Mueller.
“He appreciates what Bob Mueller is doing,” Trump’s chief counsel John Dowd told USA TODAY in an interview Tuesday. “He asked me to share that with him and that’s what I’ve done.”
Trump’s legal team has been in contact with Mueller’s office, and Dowd says he has passed along the president’s messages expressing “appreciation and greetings’’ to the special counsel.
“The president has sent messages back and forth,’’ Dowd said, declining to elaborate further.
Trump has come under fire for his prior contacts with former FBI Director James Comey, whom he abruptly fired in May because of his handling of the Russia matter. In a break with longstanding precedent to avoid even the appearance of influencing the nonpolitical law enforcement agency’s investigations, Trump spoke privately with Comey on several occasions.

Mueller, Comey and RosenKrantz are a colluding pack of Weasels.

Perhaps Trump is issuing fake news about his messages to Mueller.
If they were “secret” the NYT and washpost will have them front page soon.
Let it be known they are facing a master negotiator in Donald Trump, and Trump does not often lose in the long term, if ever. There may be short-term setbacks, but Trump plays the “Art of the Deal” with a great deal of finesse, and he has a game plan that is proven over the years to be virtually bulletproof.
Ask Jeb Bush. With a rush of energy and spectacular byplay, which manages to fake out many of the observers, the various weaknesses and limited capabilities of his opponents are quickly revealed, and Trump can be unrelenting, collapsing one line of assault and switching to a second or third, before the opponent can even get the guns turned.
Best damned job he has ever had in his life.
He signed them Carlos Danger.
And that's a good thing?
He is trying to figure out how to keep the Obama admin out of jail.
Could very well be Trump planted this to see if the messages leak out of the Mueller investigation.
If so he could fire Mueller and shut it down for compromising the integrity of the Special Prosecutor role.
Or it was just Trump’s lawyer trying to smooth the road so to speaks. I guess we will know if he gets fired soon.
Mueller did interview with President Trump about the current FBI job. So there is that.
Notice how relatively quiet Benito Obama has been of late? Perhaps too busy smashing hard drives and smart phones himself...
