Arizona woman becomes 55th sent to death row in US

PHOENIX — A Phoenix woman sentenced to death Monday in the killing of a 10-year-old cousin who was locked in a small plastic storage box and left to die is one of just dozens of female death-row inmates in the United States. The jury reached the verdict after Sammantha Allen, 29, was convicted in June of first-degree murder and four counts of child abuse in the 2011 killing of Ame Deal, who was punished for stealing an ice pop.

Allen held her head in her hand and wept as the verdict was read and later cried and hugged her attorneys before she was led out of the courtroom.

"Lack of remorse was the biggest thing that played into it for us, that we didn't see that from Sammantha throughout the whole process," juror Anne Schaad told KTVK-TV.

Women do get death penalty .... if they show lack of remorse. What the why? Reminds story Rush told of killer Polly Klaaas case in court house not showing remorse

By the way, folks, yesterday on this program I pointed out something that I had been noticing. I first noticed it actually when I was in Sacramento. Gosh, I wish I could remember the exact case. But it was a murderer — folks, I kid you not. It was an actual murderer who was brought into court for sentencing, and he did not express remorse for what he had done and the media just had a cow. The media and some spectators just had a cow.
Was that the Polly Klaas case? Maybe it was. That happened after I left Sacramento. Well, then maybe I’m confusing the two. Maybe it’s just one. Maybe it was the Polly Klaas murderer that this guy did not express remorse, and people literally had a cow over this. And I began understand what that meant. If he had expressed remorse, if he would have just asked for forgiveness, if he would have said he really didn’t mean to do it, then we would hate him less and we would be more inclined to sentence him to fewer years. Okay. It was the Polly Klaas case. I warned everybody, be on the lookout for this because this is the latest technique of the left.

That was the Polly Klaas case. Remember that remorse IS considered in sentencing. However, it is not the deciding factor that some want it to be.

As Christians, we have to temper punishment with mercy.

It’s not always easy.

And we can NEVER know if remorse is real or not.

The New Testament doesn’t go on the back burner because we’re angry.

Having said that, I would be hard pressed to not (if given permission by law) shoot this person in the back of the head after being found guilty.

. . . the killing of a 10-year-old cousin who was locked in a small plastic storage box and left to die . . .

Sick! Would they even be playing the gender card if the perp was a 29 year old dude?

She locked the girl in the box for “stealing” a popsicle. I despise these controlling freaks who dole out food and don’t let kids eat whatever.

Ah yes, the milkshake murderess. That was quite a methodical and deliberate “self-defense.” I can see some mitigation of sentence for it, but it’s still at least a murder 2 and probably murder 1.

I would define that as little to no wait before justice is served. Send them to that judgment as quickly as possible.

Drugging your husband and beating him to death while unconscious is not self defense.

She claimed stories of abuse at the trial. I don't buy it.

Per the wiki article, her wealthy husband had found out that she was cheating on him with an electrical repairman, and was initiating divorce. Sounds like a much more likely motive for murder.

Fry her.

“Ah yes, the milkshake murderess.”

In Hong Kong someone who pleads “Not Guilty” but are found guilty they are often then given a longer sentence.

None of the jurors spoke English but the trial was in English.

Don’t get me wrong. She is guilty as can be but the trial was a farce and given that shortly before her trial a serial pedophile had been given a sentence of 7 years. That Nancy Kissel received life without parole is a travesty of justice given the lack of rhyme or reason in the sentencing of other criminals.

Her problem was that she tried to hide the body. In Hong Kong there are only 8 or 10 murders a year.

If she had doped her cocaine addict, abusive husband up so that he was goofy (Which she did) and then whacked him over the head with a frying pan (Which she did) and then, instead of whacking him again until he died shed pushed his Armani covered arse over the rail of the balcony on their 23rd story balcony and then played the grieving tai-tai (rich wife) she’d be living it up with her online boyfriend today.

Like I said she is undoubted guilty but the sentence is unjust because the justice system in HK is screwed up.

Some other cases from the Hong Kong courts at that time

Reverse your car the wrong way up an entrance ramp and run over two people killing them. get 9 months in jail and 6 month suspension of driving license. You have your sentence reduced because you plead guilty.

Lure 15 little girls to a ware house with McDonald’s toys and rape them and you receive 7 years in prison. You have your sentence reduced because you plead guilty.

Chop off three people’s hands with clever because the guy got your daughter pregnant and receive 5 years in prison. You have your sentence reduced because you plead guilty.

You are a 47 year-old gold-digger who has her wealthy husband murdered but claim he was kidnapped and killed despite paying the ransom. Then you presents a handwritten alternate will that is unsigned and not dated nor in your late husband’s handwriting which you somehow convince the judge is real and inherent his entire fortune and through his children and family out in the cold. You finally of cancer years later.

Your name is David Li and you engage in market manipulation by using your position as the CEO of the bank of East Asia to make millions of dollars at the expense of small investors - get invited to the CE of Hong Kong’s house for lunch.

Short pile the foundation of a 40 story building, and then skip town with millions that you where supposed to use to pay your workers and have no charges filed.

Nancy Kissel murdered her husband but the justice system in HK is really messed up and makes the verdict unjust.

This doesn’t even deal with farce of having 12 members of a jury that could not speak English.

She is guilty but the sentence is unjust

Fascinating. The American system grew out of English common law along with the particulars expressed in the Declaration of Independence. Perhaps she would have had Gloria Alred on her defense team had she been tried here.

I’d be a lot happier if she was 55th murderer sent to the gallows to be hanged.
