I have an older friend who was drafted. After basic he received his orders....Hawaii. 4 years in a radio shack. He apologizes to fellow Vets, but then again, somebody had to do it. I was 9 when you went in. I remember the body counts on the evening news. You ALL were in our prayers at dinner time. I also remember my older sister had a bracelet for MIA or POW. Kelly was the name. Thank you for your service!

Any one remember Sipowicz on “NYPD Blue”? One of the episodes he is all over a guy who actually went to Vietnam but as a REMF. The guys trying to make out as a real killer and Sipowicz unloads on him. What really makes it interesting is Dennis Franz was the real deal in Vietnam as a USMC scout observer and rifleman for 11 months.

Actually, have been back to Vietnam twice in the last decade. It is a great place to visit.
In the South, there is little evidence of the communists. Everyone still calls Saigon Saigon, or at worst HCMC. The airport code is still SGN. We landed the Pilatus there, Da Nang and even Hanoi with no problems.
Lots of smiles in Saigon, few in Hanoi.
In Saigon, “everything is the same, but more so.” Still the cycvlos everywhere, even more gorgeous young women on 50cc Hondas, the great trading stalls at the Ben Thanh Market, the French food is still among the best in the world, Onion Soup is a meal, and everyone is delighted “The Mellicans” are back.
I DID NOT take Mrs. Strac to Madame Nu’s steam bath! :)

We just a a little chat... and he saw the error in his ways.
The worst part was he had a woman with him, (they were coming out of some Broadway show) and we seriously embarrassed him in front of her. They were arm-in-arm when our “discussion” started, and she left in a cab, by herself, 3 minutes later.
Just demonstrates the power of a well-crafted logical argument..... :)
