RT ^ | August 7, 2017

The Russian government will intensify efforts to cut the country’s dependence on US payment systems and the dollar as a settling currency, said Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov on Monday, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

... US President Donald Trump approved the law imposing new restrictions on the Russian banking and energy sectors.

... The new law will punish individuals for investing more than $5 million a year or $1 million at a time in Russian energy export pipeline projects or providing such enterprises with services, technology or information support.

I guess Russia can use vodka and blond prostitutes as a new settling currency.

Always fun to see Putinist Russia self impose more sanctions on themselves. How impotent is that?

Avoiding the dollar will be neither easy nor especially useful for Russia. The result will be higher transaction costs and delays, diminished liquidity, and greater difficulty for Putin’s gang in accumulating transportable wealth. For ordinary Russians, the dollar will become harder to come by and more desirable.

Russia is in a lot better shape financially than we are.

Gov’t 30% smaller than ours as % of GDP
booming private sector
nil debt
positive balance of trade
full support of christianity and the church

"Russia is in a lot better shape financially than we are."

Nobody who has ever been to Russia could say that with a straight face.

Yeah, that seems to be an amusing response to the sanctions imposed by Congress. Ok, if you impose sanctions on us, we will impose better sanctions on ourselves than you can yankees!

What is finance?

The Federal Reserve QE’ed 25% of GDP, that’s 4.1 Trillion dollars, from thin air over a 5 year period. Russia has its own Central Bank and can create money from thin air in a similar way. Then they can withdraw the ruble from currency exchange and there would no longer be a dollar/ruble ratio — except that they have something vital — oil — in surplus, and we import 9 million barrels of it every day.

Do not sneer at things because of finance. The Fed rendered money meaningless outside the context of counterparty agreement. Oil is physics. Money is in your head.

What are they going to use instead, Monopoly Money?
Indian Rupees?

I’ve got an idea that will suit their economy perfectly: Brazil’s ironically-named “Real,” which currently is worth $0.32, and is generally considered to be almost as worthless as the Russian ruble...

They, and many other nations, say this every few years when they don’t like something. But they cannot seem to find a suitable, reliable, consistent and stable alternative. I hope they never figure out how Gold Works. That would actually concern me. LOL

Not a good play by the globalists,...... forcing Russia to ally itself with BRICS movement cannot improve the chances of the United States surviving the coming war with China.

Both Russia & China have been moving toward their own financial empire for a while..... putting the luciferian Rothschild western bankers all in a dither.....this latest move to isolate Russia might result in a stronger Sino-Russian military alliance ..... (just plain stupid, actually)

This has been a problem since 1989. So the Russia meme is a forked battle offensive. Amazing that the vote was nearly unanimous from Congress.

>nil debt
Russia’s debt to GDP has been rising since 2007: https://tradingeconomics.com/russia/government-debt-to-gdp Plus the fact that they don’t have debt isn’t a good thing when you actually look at their economy. They don’t borrow because their government gets revenues from the oil and gas industry. While this is a good thing when oil and gas prices are high, it’s terrible for the government when they collapse like they are right now. And just remember- fracking is only being used in the United States and Argentina on a large scale. There’s still a huge amount of natural gas out there left to be fracked at low cost and most of Russia’s natural gas is in conventional reserves that are expensive and require transportation out of places like Siberia.
>booming private sector
What private sector? You know most of Russia’s economy was centralized under Putin into state-owned conglomerates, right? Further, the Russian economy is heavily reliant on natural gas and oil exports, which we’re kicking their behind in. Russia is the sick man of natural gas- they’re losing their edge in Europe, with Trump declaring that we’re going to start exporting our gas there, and they’re scrambling to get deals in Asia. Gazprom’s CEO Alexey miller once bragged at the height of the commodities bubble that Gazprom would be the first trillion dollar company and they’re sitting at a nice $50 billion valuation right now.
>Gov’t 30% smaller of ours as % of GDP
See: above
>positive balance of trade
Sure I guess, but this doesn’t make up for any of the problems in the country.
>full support of Christianity and the Church
Russia has a higher abortion rate, HIV rate, and drug usage rate than the so-called “degenerate” states of Western Europe. Plus, Russia just recently banned evangelizing outside of a church. So much for “Christian” values there buddy? Meanwhile, he lets his jihadi buddy Kadyrov build an Islamic theocracy in Chechnya.

We should be way more preoccupied with China than Russia. Russia’s only advantage over us is in cyberwarfare and with the right policies and investment we can easily fix that. Russia can’t use their conventional military against us or their nuclear arsenal, which are the only two things they have going for them, but China can in places like the South China Sea. Stop with this worship of Russia. It’s almost as bad as listening to Grahamnesty talk about the Kremlin.
