Something close to this happened in CA when DoJ looted DROS fees to fund a program regarding Armed Prohibited Persons, which mostly turned out to be a LEO full employment project. Turned out at the state level that CA has/had a hiring freeze on LEO. But this program was exempt and they allowed "lateral transfers" from it which opened up a window of opportunity that many qualified people jumped on but it had a LOT of instability as they transferred out ASAP. Kind of like money laundering except for LEOs.

So they compared lists of people with guns with people convicted of disqualifying events (not necessarily a crime) and DoJ agents went to the house to seize the firearm(s). But here's the joke, it was voluntary. Of course they didn't tell you that. They yell and threaten but the 4th Amendment is still in some kind of effect and without a search warrant they CANNOT enter your house and (here's the catch) your name showing up in a computer printout is not probably cause for issuance of a search warrant.

Net net: be polite but firm. DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR. Ask for a search warrant. If one is not forthcoming, wish them a nice day and studiously ignore them afterwards. Eventually they will move on.
