WASHINGTON/DETROIT (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) and rival Mazda Motor Corp are expected to announce plans on Friday to build a $1.6 billion U.S assembly plant as part of a new joint venture, a person briefed on the matter said.
The plant will be capable of producing 300,000 vehicles a year, with production divided between the two automakers, and employ about 4,000 people when it opens in 2021, the person said on Thursday.
A new auto plant would be a major boost to U.S. President Donald Trump, who campaigned on promises to boost manufacturing and expand employment for American autoworkers.

It’s going to a right to work state that’s not dominated by the UAW. It’s not going near a city that already has a UAW plant.
Probably not ... too much to hope for ... but we could sure use it.
But, Obama said those jibs were gone, never to return.
These will mostly be FT jobs people can make a living on not Obama’s PT burger flipper jobs.
MI has too many auto plants already. WI just got FoxConn. Give it to PA.
I would love to see them build a plant in one of the areas supposedly only inhabited by idiot rednecks according to the left.
The fact that the left believes some Americans are just too dumb to do a certain job because thy don have a Masters in Gender studies or some other BS diploma is one of the most reprehensible this about them.
You will love this one.
“Give it to PA.”
That would be good. Trump barely won PA the last time around.
More winning! I’m not yet tired of it yet, despite the fact that PDT said I would be.
The plant will be built in southeastern North Carolina.
After working for and leading projects in 2007/08 in Georgetown and across all their plants, I can tell you Toyota attempt to take care of their staff, just could pay more.
That site has around 7500 full time staff plus contractors. Kicking out a car every 52 seconds, the Georgetown plant is the best and no auto manufacture matches their ability to execute. 95% of the Camry is made onsite and all the parts are manufactured on site.
WV? Such a plant and associated jobs would be Heaven sent. Not totally out of the question as Toyota has the engine factory at Buffalo, but I think WV’s right to work law is still held up in the state court system.
They dont care about local operations anymore. Theyd rather go to the U.S. and invest there, he said, referring to Sibanyes $2.2 billion acquisition of Colorado-based Stillwater Mining Co. this year.
TRUMP got fewer votes than Romney in that State!!!! WTF??!!!
4,000 jobs at the final assembly plant. Thousands more at suppliers.
Tired of winning yet?
