Venezuela is on a fast track to the apocalypse — with the regime’s efforts to lock in its control only making it worse.
Thanks to the socialist misrule of the late Hugo Chavez, the country was already the murder and kidnapping capital of the world when Nicolás Maduro took over as president.
Now it’s No. 1 in inflation, too. Food is scarce; medicine scarcer still. Regime thugs answer protests with deadly force.
Maduro has used corrupt courts to sideline the opposition-run parliament, and is in the process of setting up a phony “constituent assembly” of loyalists to replace it.
In the wee hours Tuesday, the government “arrested” two prominent regime critics who’d questioned the vote in Sunday’s “election” to that assembly. Wednesday, the firm that provided the voting machines announced that it already has evidence of at least 1 million falsified votes.
Washington has put new sanctions on Maduro and other top officials, and President Trump warns he’ll hold Maduro personally responsible for those imprisoned opposition leaders. More sanctions are surely ahead — maybe even on oil, Venezuela’s only profitable resource.
But the regime clearly is bent on keeping power to the end — that is, until it has so ruined the nation that the government can’t even feed or pay the troops that keep the starving masses at bay.

The descent from first world to third took nearly 18 years, largely because there was so very much Other People’s Money to steal. It’s gone now. POTUS, Trump must take action that will cause regime change in Venezuela & Cuba in the near future. Venezuela is now a failed state like a Somalia or Libya. Cuba is the same.
The “Obama” effort to prop up Cuba has failed miserably. American tourists are treated badly, robbed and beaten up by Cuban thugs. The people of Cuba and Venezuela deserve a better life.
USA & Trump must act with a massive forceful hand to get rid of these tyrants & dictators who starve and kill their own citizens....across the board. American power used efficiently, effectively and quickly will be a lesson the whole world will notice and take note of. We cannot stand by and let the people of Venezuela suffer they way are under Madero and his socialist thugs and criminals. Not in the Americas!!!

And all those actors who went down there to kiss Chavez’s ass and now Maduro’s. Notta sound, not in sight.
However, they made it possible for the red dictators to run and ruin a beautiful country, now a prison for tens of millions (like Cuba), yet they left like a plague of locust after destroying fields of food.

I think he will end up the same way too; on the end of a rope. The sooner the better. Then try his cohorts for war crimes against their own people and let them decide their fate.
Back when the CIA was still useful, they’d have taken out Hugo Chavez before Venezuela deteriorated to his successor, the Saddam twin.
The American left has been watching Venezuela like one would watch a laboratory experiment. Imposing a communistic style system on a country that had a thriving middle class and great resources has been very instructive for those who would try it here.
Yes. Sometimes the laboratory is the Soviet Union, or China, or Cuba, or Nicaragua. Today it’s Venezuela.
But, for the Left, it’s always the same — “We want to do what they did. But they didn’t do it right. We have smarter people, so we’ll do what they did and we’ll be more successful, because we’ve learned from their mistakes.”
But success never comes.
