South Korea's military draws up plans for a 'surgical strike' to take out Kim Jong-un's missile ...

South Korea's military is drawing up plans for a 'surgical strike' to take out Kim Jong-un's missile and nuclear facilities if orders are given to remove the dictator.

Taurus cruise missiles fired from F-15 fighters would be used to destroy the facilities if President Moon Jae-in gives the go ahead in an emergency, it is claimed.

The contingency measure would be initiated by the President's Special Forces, according to reports by Seoul newspaper Munwha Ilbo.

It comes just days after North Korea carried out another test launch of its Hwasong-14 missile and amid heightened tensions between North Korean tyrant Kim Jong-un and the US.

According to reports the project is being overseen by South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Ministry of National Defense.

It comes after two US officials said North Korea's latest test of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) has shown that Pyongyang now may be able to reach most of the continental United States.

The assessment, which the officials discussed on condition of anonymity, underscored the growing threat posed by Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programmes, and could add pressure on President Donald Trump's administration to respond.

ROK might want to consider re-evaluating their OPSEC policies.

This is the kind of stuff which should not be leaked. And, it is leaked, should not be published. Aren’t their ANY laws to the damage reporters can do by publishing national security information?

An attack on Norkea probably requieres a truly massive strike ont he artillery that is massed at the DMZ. An effective attack probably has to await the weather providing a hard steady airflow from south to north to keep the fallout from Seoul.

Personally, I like the old “Rods from God” space based system.

“A satellite containing a magazine of tungsten rods and a directional thrust system. When a strike is ordered, the satellite would brake one of the rods out of its orbit and into a suborbital trajectory that intersects the target.

“As the rod approaches periapsis and the target due to gravity, it picks up immense speed until it begins decelerating in the atmosphere and reaches terminal velocity shortly before impact. The rods would typically be shaped to minimize air resistance and maximize terminal velocity.

“The Outer Space Treaty is designed to prohibit weapons of mass destruction in orbit or outer space; however, its text only prohibits nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons. Since the most common form of kinetic ammunition is inert tungsten rods, in most cases, kinetic bombardment is not prohibited by the treaty.”

You abandon your friends often, or just thinking about it?

My buddy from college was born in South Korea. His family moved to the US when he was 5. He was 6 foot 1, wrestled and played football in high school. It is amazing how big they get when they are properly fed.

“You abandon your friends often, or just thinking about it? “

I think after 70 years Korea cannot call it “abandonment”.

Just how long do you think we are supposed to defend another nation like this??

Korea can take care of herself.

Do you spend nights at your friend’s house watching over them too??

No, but I don't have an agreement to mutually defend my neighbors. If I did I would honor it until my neighbor said it was no longer needed or desired. The SK,s have been good allies and friends. We either stand by and for something or we don't and our word becomes no good. Just my opinion, though I admit as a nation with our back and forth politics, our word is questionable already.
