Even the old timer mafioso didn't want anything to do with drugs. Mario Puzo expounds on this in his works, and even the Godfather movies touch upon this subject.

Although Puzo’s Corleone and family despised drug traficking and opted for casinos instead, many other mafia families wanted to push drugs. A lot of the strife between the families resulted from this conflict over whether or not to push drugs.
