The U.S. Capitol itself follows a sanctuary city policy that protects illegal immigrants from being turned over to deportation agents, a Republican congressman said Friday, announcing new legislation to scrap that policy.
Rep. Steve King, Iowa Republican, said Capitol Police dont have clear permission to handle immigration violations, so they often dont bother to check the legal status of those they arrest for other offenses in the Capitol complex.
That leads to bizarre situations where illegal immigrants proudly proclaim their unauthorized status in the U.S., while protesting or blockading offices. They are processed and released without being turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

While Mr. Kings bill deals specifically with changing the policy at the Capitol Police, the problem extends to other federal law enforcement agencies.
In particular the U.S. Park Police, which patrol large swaths of the Washington metropolitan region, has also followed a sanctuary policy.
That means illegal immigrants protesting at the White House including some who chained themselves to the White House fence in a demonstration several years ago were not turned over to immigration authorities.
Were not concerned with their immigration status, a Park Police officer told The Washington Times at the time of the demonstrations.

The US Capitol is a sanctuary for illegal aliens.
Sad.

Sad.
Send US Marshalls in and charge the gov or mayors with smuggling.
Guess that would mean civil war.
Definitely worth reading
The advantage of legislation is the the policy couldn’t be easily reversed upon a future change in the Administration.
Why would the Park Service be observing sanctuary city policies? They are Federal police. Trump could stop this in a minute unless this is another part of the Federal government that doesn’t seem to be under his control.
My guess is that this is simply one more result of the slowness of staffing the administration. Personnel are policy. The Obama political appointees are gone but practices instituted during the Obama years are now SOP and will continue under the radar screen until they are changed. This requires executive leadership. There are innumerable things hidden in the weeds that need to be rooted out. They won’t be until Trump appointees fill the seats across the various bureaus and agencies.
