Other than the boomers which are not under navy control for launching, I thouhgt the US Navy no longer had nukes.

Did not Bush the elder order them to get rid of them on ships?

If the admiral really believes that military personnel must obey every order from above, then he should be replaced. Military personnel have a duty to refuse to follow an unlawful order. (I’m not saying nuking China is, in itself, unlawful, but the Captain’s spin is certainly worse than the original statement).

And his reason for waiting until “next week”?

"The premise of the question was ridiculous."

I was mislead by the writers misleading opening sentence. here is the actual quote from the body of the story.
“Asked by an academic in the audience whether he would make a nuclear attack on China next week if Trump ordered it, Swift replied: “The answer would be: Yes.” “

” He said war was too important to be left to the generals. When he said that, 50 years ago, he might have been right. But today, war is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids. “

I sure as hell hope so.

If that's supposed to scare me, I'd be more scared if there WASN'T an Admiral at the ready.

In other words, this American wouldn't commit Treason by disobeying his Commander-In-Chief? How surprising...

WRONG !

Every military officer swears an oath to support and defend the US Constitution, which includes obeying orders from the Commander in Chief.
That does not mean that every officer (or any other service member) gets to decide for himself the legality of said orders.
Obviously there are possible illegal orders such as to kill prisoners or civilians, but that is not what we’re talking about here.
Are you suggesting that Col. Tibbetts would have been correct to refuse Truman’s order to bomb Hiroshima ?

No, and if you read and comprehended my post, you'd know that.

But if Obama had ordered the Army to shoot every white person in Texas, that would be an example of an illegal order that should be disobeyed. And anyone that can't tell the difference between a legal and an illegal order shouldn't rank higher than E-2.

Admirals do not have the authority to tell boomers to launch.

Yes, I mentioned that obvious and remote possibility; but apparently you posit that ANY service member is Constitutionally, and more importantly morally, justified in substituting his “judgement” for that of the National Command Authority.

It is a damn good thing that we are not depending on you for defense of the United States.

The answer the Navy will give you and has always given is: “I can neither confirm or deny the presence of nuclear weapons.”

Context is everything - why make a show of military loyalty a bad thing?

I guess that hitting this link

might constitute blindly following those who actually invest themselves in a conservative cause.....
