Is this President Trump (possibly with Sessions’ knowledge and approval) making sure the GOPe is on Sessions’ side before something big comes down the pike?

I’m skeptical that Trump has orchestrated this, but whether he has or not, you’re right. His criticism of Sessions has cajoled the Democrats into fully backing Sessions just as he was ready to announce leak investigations. And we know who most of the leaks have been aimed at.
