Get all of these Democrats to publicly support Sessions, so they have no credibility to criticize him when it becomes clear that the DOJ is involved in some serious matters involving prominent Democrats.

There’s a simpler explanation. Trump needs to build public support for the firing of Sessions before he can pull the trigger.

If Sessions was smart he would resign right now with honor. If he doesn’t resign, he’ll get roasted for a long time and will get fired when he has no support left and people are just begging Trump to let him go.

Maybe Trump is preparing the battlefield for issuing that order, along the lines of "if Sessions won't do it on his own ..." Sort of spreads the heat for that move.

Separately, Trump shows here that he seems to understand the inherent conflict of having his AG investigate and prosecute Clinton, e.g., that his AG would have to recuse from that case.
