I just noticed a few years ago that The Podersosa from Bonanza is on Lake Tahoe. Man those Cartwrights are stinking rich.

North Tahoe is much better. We went a few weeks ago. We were driving to go kayaking when we noticed a huge waterfall off the road. We looked at maps and it was a Mike hike to it, so we did that instead.

It was spectacular! We hiked to the top of it. At the too it was spread out over granite and beautiful, and then we went to a ledge and saw it crashing down.

Spectacular!

We went kayaking too on other days. We also enjoy going to the Shakespeare festival where the lake is the backdrop for the stage.

Lake Tahoe is a tributary watershed drainage element within the Truckee River Basin, and its sole outlet is the Truckee River, which continues on to discharge to Pyramid Lake.

It’s in Incline Village, the most expensive real estate on the Lake...my father drove the family up from SoCal in 1973 and we stayed on the lake. Also visited the Ponderosa one afternoon.

And the Corleones.

A “small rubber plant”?

He may have a looming sales problem. What man would ever buy a small rubber? Men only buy extra large.

They shut it down a number of years back, did manage to finally go on the Tour before they did so. I’m sure it is developed Real Estate now.

still love the area.

I spent my grade school years in El Dorado County. I remember as a boy swimming at South Lake Tahoe and enjoying the clarity of the water. It was wonderful swimming under water with a mask.

“Considering retiring on the Nevada side for more favorable taxation. Just not sure about full time with the hard Winters.”
Same here. Beautiful areas to retire in Reno and Carson Valley. Not a lot of snow but winds really cold. The freeway between I80 and Hwy 50 (Reno through Carson City) should be completed by next month which will mean easier access to South Lake Tahoe. Already got our ski passes so hope this is going to be another good winter.

As I understand it, it used to be open to the public, but the first time I went there, probably 2007 or 2008, it was no longer open. But we saw the driveway on the northeast side of the lake. Health permitting, I want to go back next March and ski.

#29 Did a search and found this. A real estate developer got the best of the Cartwrights.

Is the Ponderosa Ranch still open?
The Ponderosa Ranch opened in 1967 by Bill & Joyce Anderson in Incline Village, Nevada and was a replica of the home of the Cartwrights of TV’s Bonanza. After almost 40 years as a popular western tourist attraction, the Ponderosa Ranch closed its gates in 2005.

Michael was great in that scene.
They just played it last weekend. It’s one of those movies, when it’s on you have to watch it.

IIRC, Senator Geary uttered the only swear word in the Godfather movies, when he dropped the F-bomb.

Hmmm, do you have a source for white sand being trucked in by developers? My understanding was the sand is natural.

Source? nah. just remember studying this is a class on the geology/geomorphology of the Sierra Nevada’s I took back in the ‘60s. I even have a mental image of a photo.

IF, I recall correctly, there are brown sand and white sand beaches around Tahoe. The white sand was brought up by rail road and dumped on the mudflats when an area was being developed.

"...Love the drive up highway 395 from So Kal..."

I posit that 395 is one of the most beautiful drives in the country.

I used to do a lot of backpacking and 395 was almost always part of the trip going to and from a trailhead.
