Luke Skywalker was originally going to be named Luke Starkiller.
They decided to make Luke and Leia brother and sister so that Leia and Han Solo could have the romantic relationship and nobody would feel left out or have hurt feelings.

The American Journal of Medical and Biological Research (SciEP) accepted the paper, but asked for a $360 fee...
And there is what most of “scientific” research has become; a feed trough.

This will be known as the era in which fact, news, and science died.
The opening sequence of Foundation (by Issac Asimov) detailed a similar time in the future of man, in which we were among the many stars of the galaxy, but that scientific method consisted of reading others work, and that science-as-fad was widespread. Even as a child, I viewed his writing as fun fiction... but it appears Mr. Asimov was simply prescient.
