In the crowded streets of NYC its a dance. People signal that they will move left or right by a very small head movement, whoever signals first the other person jigs the other way. It's in their mutual interest not to collide. Groups get right of way and don't need to signal, two groups, one usually parts in the middle. I didn't read this whole article because it is whiny and I ain't got time fo dat, but I have seen the occasional group of women walking down the sidewalk, 3 or 4 abreast, where, if I gave a damn, I would have to leave the sidewalk entirely in order to avoid collision. I do have some gentlemanly tendencies here and there, but I am disgusted by the display of narcissism and entitlement that this sort of behavior entails. If it were a section where only a single person could pass, either direction, I would allow the "lady" to go first, but 4 across the whole sidewalk with no regard for other pedestrians? Nope. I keep walking and give them the choice to walk around or get intimate with me in a sudden fashion.

There is an increasing pointlessness in being a gentleman in a world with such a dearth of true ladies.
