A lot.. they have to go to endless dinners with all the lobbyists, sometimes even have to go with the lobbyists to strip clubs and stuff. They have to go to great lengths to disguise sources of campaign funds, make deals all day long with their donors, and all sorts of things. It's hard work, but that's what keeps them busy!

These poor guys only get 218 days off (days not in session) a year.... put another way, for every day they "work" they only get a day and a half off. That's a brutal schedule!

We could hardly ask for anything better. A recess would give Trump the opportunity to Recess Appointment dozens or scores of nominees currently held up by the Democrats.

Trump and the Art of the Deal

Trump: I offer you Summer Vacation in trade for a successful vote on the repeal of Obamacare.

Senate and House: Sounds good.

Summer Vacation is way, way more important than health care - if you are a Senator or a Member of Congress.

Congressmen are working even when Congress is not in session contrary to your statement. And I know I would hate having to attend dinners ever other night and having to suck up for donations.

Politicians are very hardworking that is not really an issue, the issue is what they are working for.

Ignoring the fact this article is from Nov. 2016, what if Congress told him to go pound sand? He can convene them. He can’t make them do anything.

Certainly some do work hard when not in session... I was being a little facetious. Still, considering their compensation and benefits they have a pretty cushy existence compared to us in the serf class of society.

Yes, as pointed out the article is from 2016.

If they do nothing he keeps them in session.

What nominees are currently being held up by the Democrats?

They strong-arm lobbyists. I think the average net worth of Senators is 9 million. You try and build personnel wort like that on their salary and see how well it works.

Harry Truman said it best. An honest public servant can't become rich in politics.
