Appellate Court Rules Government Officials Opening Meetings With Prayer Is Unconstitutional

The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit issued a 10-5 decision on Friday ruling that Rowan County, N.C., county commissioners cannot begin official sessions with prayer, the First Liberty Institute announced following the decision. First Liberty represents the county and expressed disappointment that the court ignored precedent in the Supreme Court’s Town of Greece v. Galloway decision that deemed an opening prayer for legislative bodies acceptable under the Constitution.

“While we are disappointed in the Fourth Circuit’s decision to ban invocations before legislative meetings contrary to Supreme Court precedent, we are encouraged that the split in the vote on the Fourth Circuit demonstrates the need for the Supreme Court review on this issue,” Mike Berry, deputy general counsel for First Liberty, said.

Doesn’t the Supreme Court and Congress open with a prayer.

Don’t both have chaplains?

Obama really did a number on the Fourth Circuit. It’s the world turned upside down.

If there was ever a reason to disband an entire appellate court, this is it.

What’s next? Appellate court declares all US money unconstitutional because it says “ In God We Trust”.

Never expect reason, logic or consistency, in the ordinary sense, in considering the Leftist war on our heritage. The only consistency is in finding an excuse to undermine heritage.

To understand what the ACLU & its allies are engaged in--which is not and never has been about defending what the Fathers called the "Blessings of Liberty"--see Leftist Word Games & The First Amendment.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.

Now, what this actually means folks, is that Christianity is illegal.

Get with the program, those are either “Grief Councilors”
or “Transgender Advocates”.

SCOTUS’ Courtroom has the Ten Commandments written on the wall right below the ceiling.
How does that square with this nonsense?

How many times does this horse$hit have to go the Supreme Court and get overruled . . . what a disgusting waste of taxpayers’ money? Just plain aggravating.

I don’t get that aspect of this either. If the Supreme Court has already ruled on this issue, how can a lower court issue a contradictory opinion??? What about the liberals reverence for Supreme Court precedent and other such legal concepts?????

....Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion...

The second half of the clause is equally important, and mostly overlooked.

” Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, OR prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”
The Fourth Circuit did exactly that with the “free exercise” portion.

Screw them. People are free to pray and worship wherever they wish.

Stop wasting taxpayers money over crap like this.

Personally, I would counterclaim against ANYONE who brought suits like this, on the basis of attempts to curtail or deny First Amendment rights.

CONGRESS shall make no law...

We need to repeal the 14th Amendment, and wipe out:

—Roe v. Wade
—anchor babies
—the incorporation doctrine

Since all former slaves are deceased, the original purpose of the amendment no longer exists, and all its effects are mischievous.

These lower courts demand we respect their decisions when they flat refuse to accept higher court precedents. It is vital that Trump pack the courts with solid conservatives, very young and very conservative.
