Video: College students support socialism even though they can’t explain what it is

Campus Reform published a video yesterday showing college students in Washington, D.C. responding to two simple questions. The first question was: Do you think socialism is good or bad? As you’ll see, there was enthusiastic agreement from the students that socialism was a good idea, one which is about “helping people” and spreading the wealth. Some of the students even seem defensive, noting that socialism, inexplicably, has a bad reputation.

The second question was also simple: What is socialism? All of the students who were confident socialism was a good idea seem unable to really explain what it is or how it works to produce all of the good outcomes it supposedly produces. One student refers to “getting rid of that wealth gap” but that’s an effect, not a policy or a definition.

Old Reagan quote —

“A Liberal is someone who has read Karl Marx. A Conservative is someone who has understood Karl Marx.”

Socialism is more of a cult than anything. These kids believe but they do not understand.

Does not bode well for the future of this country.

How, after 16-18 years of indoctrination, can they be made to see the errors of their ways?

No wonder Sanders had a good following.

They also don’t know that most protests are organized by members of either the Revolutionary Communist Party or Communist Party USA. If these two organizations suddenly realized how idiotic they are and went out of business protests in the USA would practically stop.

To believe in Socialism, is to believe that there are a group of people who run things, who will know exactly how to allocate capital and labor, so that everyone will be happy.

Wow, getting worse. They have no idea that opinions should be based on facts. Facts? What are they? I mean...it’s better for everyone..
To hear those kids, getting an education, dressed well, busily parroting spread the wealth around was sickening. Do they realize that they would be giving up things that they take for granted and the party bosses would be the only ones with advantage? No one took the time with them when they were young to train & discipline their minds. That’s what the NEA is all about.

The same reason they walk around wearing Che Guevara t-shirts despite having no clue as to what a murderous thug he was. Because it’s COOL!!!

College students would support anything if it were re-tweeted enough times.

Many years ago, in an evening church service, a young man on the worship team playing an electric guitar wore a ‘Ché’ shirt. Judging from his age, he didn’t know who Ché Guevara was. Obviously, someone did point out to this young man, exactly who and what Guevara was, as the shirt was never seen again in the building. The edjumacashun system sure didn’t tell him!

"Does not bode well for the future of this country.

Of course an argument could be made that America has been a socialist country since the 1930's: Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, plus the growing number of government agencies concerned with equality of outcome instead of equality of opportunity.

No wonder college students believe in socialism, despite being unwble to dfine it. They have experienced nothing else.

This is as concise of an explanation that I have seen. I copied from a post a saw here on FR a few years ago.

Economic definition:

Capitalism: Production and distribution run by private sector.

Socialism: Production, private. Distribution by government.

Communism: Production and distribution run by government.

Fascism: Use of force to impose political will.

I'm not an economist or a polysci major, but it helped me understand more clearly.

The debate is whether it is an economic or political system....or both. It essentially is allowing the free market to operate but the government, not the citizen consumer, picks winners and losers.

Our children are creatures of emotion and not thought...way to go NEA

It’s official, the dumbing down of America caused by institutions of higher learning is complete. The Communist Manifesto has been proven. We no longer teach student to think, rather to follow like good little brown shirts.

Emocrats are producing exactly what they need — an ignorant, dumbed down electorate that is easy to manipulate and thereby control without challenge. They cant rule an electorate of thinkink, well read people like conservatives are.
