The GOP became whores the moment the Congress was given to them in 1994. About 1995, he transformation was complete.

The malignancy set in once Dubya was elected to the White House.

Toomey said, "I didn't expect Donald Trump to win...

What he's basically saying is that he himself didn't expect to win.
Being a PA voter myself, I can say that the only reason Toomey won re-election was by riding Trump's coat-tails to a win.
Toomey won by such a slim margin, that if PA had gone the other way and Shrillery had won, then Toomey would have been out of a job.

They don't call it the stupid party for nothing!!

The GOPe wants to be in the minority - that is where they perform best and they absolutely abhor this need to "FIGHT" their compatriots across the aisle, WHICH IS PRECISELY WHAT THEY RAN ON AND THE PUBLIC SENT THEM THERE TO PERFORM. ACT LIKE LEADERS OR GET THE HE$$ OUT OF DC.

‘Our’ side, or about 225 of them are gonna get primaried by America-firsters. They’ve earned every bit of their casting-outs: indifference to outright hostility to the man who’s trying to restore Americans rather than support and defense, and their primariers will be driving that home starting in November. Can’t wait to meet their replacements!

“We never expected Trump to win.” Translation, “We hoped he didn’t win because then we would have to go to work.”

The Republicans never wanted to be in charge. They are comfortable being in the minority. You don’t get the prime office spots but you don’t have to be responsible or produce anything, yet the majority will cut enough money out to you to make yourself and your cronies comfortably wealthy. All that is required is to throw enough brickbats from the back bench to appease your flyover country rube constituents and hang on to your sinecure.

That they didn’t have solid draft legislation ready to go two years ago is an indictment of the Republican Party and every “conservative” think tank. Remember that when Heritage, Cato, etc. come asking for money.

They should all be arrested for fraud.

Can't we dig up Arlen Specter's corpse?

Would be hard to tell the difference. He was the least healthy looking man I'd ever met in person.

I would agree with the implied premise that stupid is as stupid thinks. I believe that a sizeable majority of those of us who ally in Free Republic, believed that a Trump victory was not only possible, but probable, at least from the nomination on! That those inside the Beltway were so out of touch tells us something pretty damning about those inside the Beltway.

Pat Toomey might have said the truth here, I agree with him, they didn't expect to have a President Trump in the White House, but I did, I knew it the day he announced...

You see President Trump doesn't say things he doesn't mean, and the dems and media knew right there and then they were sunk...

Everything was set up for Hillary, she was going to mop the floor up with Jeb! and that didn't happen, Jeb! mopped the floor up with himself...

Taking on 16 candidates, the media and the dirty tricks from the loony libs...it wasn't hard to figure out to those of us through out America who was going to win...only those in the swamp didn't know...

Well now, the lie they told us: “We have had our own health bill but can't put it out yet” was proved wrong, President Trump did that about a month or so ago...proved to us all they never had crap waiting...they told us that so they would get votes, so now that they are back in D.C. are we going to re elect them again on their lies?

Chaffetz quit because he thought he was so important that he could waltz right into Utah and run for Gov. Ha, Ha, Ha, after one town hall getting tomatoes thrown at him and getting yelled off stage at another one, he left the State...so much for the ‘truth of the matter’...

Go through your Senators and Representatives and vet them carefully, they lie, they cheat and they are part of the “Deep State Swamp”...it's only up to us out here to make sure we send people back to help Our President to ‘Drain the Swamp’!!!

All this does is demonstrate that Toomey has been in DC way too long and needs to spend an equal amount of time in Scranton or Wilkes-Barre.

Thank you Mr.Toomey for your resignation speech. You made an excellent case for your dismissal.

No kidding, given that it was his state that put Trump over the top.

Talk about being out of touch with your constituents...

Pennsylvania in 2016 was actually a remarkable demonstration of the vagaries of partisan politics and the ability of very different candidates to win even in the same jurisdiction.

I'm willing to bet that there was less overlap between Trump and Toomey voters than there was in any other state where Trump and an incumbent Republican Senator both won. I wouldn't be surprised if 15% of the voters who supported Toomey didn't support Trump, and vice versa.

Toomey got a lot of his support from white-collar suburban voters around Philadelphia, while many of the Trump voters were blue-collar Democrats from central and western PA who either voted against Toomey or didn't vote in the Senate election at all.

I think PA in 2016 would be a great subject for a political science textbook.

I had to visit my home city of Philadelphia last month for a funeral. All throughout Montgomery county liberals in a tantrum state of mind have signs displayed in their yards as a Trump protest. “Hate not tolerated here” or some such kumbayah
