"They are obliged to spell out in clear terms why immigrationto say nothing of the importation of seasonal, temporary, and skilled laboris an economic necessity."

The author lays out a series of comically bad ideas, blasting Trump for wanting to spend money on infrastructure as unconservative, but supporting the bailout of Wall St. while in the same breath, opposing the bailout of the auto industry. He implores us to cry for the losses of potential profits for corporations who are prevented from moving factories abroad rather than care about the workers.
The lack of self awareness is shocking.
Rothman also spills the beans on the fact that the refugee intake is being driven by interventionist foreign policy aims:
"The resettlement of at-risk populations abroad can also advance American national interests. The intake of refugees from trouble spots all over the globe is an instrument of U.S. foreign policy."
Thanks for clearing that up, Noah.
These people really need to take a sabbatical type break away from their daily lives. They have stopped receiving new information for some reason.
You never see articles on “How to be a conservative in the Age of Bush” from these clowns.
If you are against the wall. We will eventually put you there.
The need for imported farm labor is going away.

“How to Be a Conservative in the Age of Trump”
I walk around with a huge smile and middle fingers extended in both directions.
This reads like a parody of NeoCon talking points that borders on the Anti-Semitic.
Silly Wabbit.
Unlimited immigration is NOT in any way "conservative." I won't argue the economic or political value of massive immigration and population replacement but it does not comport with the traditions of the nation and therefore is not conservative. Conservative means to keep, to hold unchanged, to maintain the character of the nation and the people. Unlimited immigration swamps and erases both and is therefore radical change which is the antithesis of conservatism. Actually, such immigration with health and tendency-to-violence (Moslems) restrictions would not be damaging to American traditions if there were NO welfare available and all dealings with government entities past the act of entry would needs be conducted in English. There would certainly be less of it.
Awww, Isn’t that cute.
Noah still thinks he is a Conservative, despite the thousands of times when he was at Hot Air and shown to be a slightly left of center neocon ignoramus.
I’ve blocked a few e-mail accounts since the first of the year.
One in particular, a cousin who bombarded the entire family with demands that we must all support “the fight against global warming” ... after some terse correspondence, with the usual lib hysteria, name calling and no evidence, finally told her she was blocked. I could have easily been as obnoxious with them/her over the last eight years.
The butt hurt almost makes it worthwhile, but they’re a PIMA as well. “Progressives” can go straight to ....
“Conservative means to keep, to hold unchanged, to maintain the character of the nation and the people.”
How does time figure into this holding/maintaining concept of conservatism? I mean, we’ve had these horrible fed level entitlements for a couple/few generations now - social security, medicare and medicaid.
It could, in a technical sense, be said to be a conserving/maintaining strategy to wholeheartedly support those awful programs - simply because they have been there so dang long.
But it would not be considered conservative to start another one - like TrumpRyanCare.
The definition of Conservatism has become muddled and meaningless. Because it is too subjective.
I support America’s primary founding principle, which is more of an objective definition - Freedom!
Pretty much all Republicans call themselves conservative, but few support the original concept of God-given individual freedom.
Seasonal, agricultural work is where we really need all the automation and robotics that can be adapted for the purpose. The work is mostly seasonal and difficult, and it would be next to impossible to recruit enough local people to do the work during planting and harvest times. We need robots picking all those berries and fruits and harvesting the veggies.
In this country conservatives are derided by the left as trying to bring back "the old days" and in a sense conservatives are trying to return to a level and style of government that once was. It is understood more or less well that there are two kinds of American conservatives and those who care in both groups understand the distinctions, small government conservative,s that do, indeed, want to roll back the leviathan state and another group of conservatives, most of the Republican Party, that are really Tories. George Will is the picture of the aristocratic Tory. The split is especially glaring in the matter of foreign policy. The Tories are essentially Imperialists while the small- governmentists prefer to stay out of foreign entanglements beyond keeping the sea lanes open for trade.
>>”The resettlement of at-risk populations abroad can also advance American national interests. The intake of refugees from trouble spots all over the globe is an instrument of U.S. foreign policy.”
It is long past time that U.S. foreign policy be run for the benefit of Main Street America, and not for the benefit of Foggy Bottom and Wall Street.
We don’t need more “conservatives”.
We need more patriots. More constitutionalists, more originalists.
Now others are awakening to the truth, Republican self-proclaimed conservative, leaders are also part of the Democrat Socialist NWO. The don’t cave to democrats they agree with them.
I’m a Conservative nationalist. America first with time test traditional values and a wiliness to fight the left’s fire with fire. Neo-cons on the other hand are just leftists warmongers pretending to be on the right.
“It takes a Maggie Thatcher to reverse course...”
Agreed.
Mister, we could use a man like Maggie Thatcher again...
