Donnelly goes into Republican counties and publicly appears with local Republicans. He has been given permission to break ranks in the Senate and vote with the Republicans on a few token issues where his vote is not decisive. He appears generally likeable to Hoosier voters and comes across as middle of the road. Of course he marches in lockstep with the dems on the major issues, but he will be tough to beat.
