500 million years ago, as Earth recovered from its snowball phase, and most plant life began to evolve, CO2 reached 5,000 parts per million, which is more than 12X the current rate. Also, 20,000 years ago, as Earth began to warm from the most recent Ice Age, CO2 was at a record low of 200 parts per million.
Importantly, the Vostock ice-core samples reveal that, historically, increased C02 levels actually FOLLOWED increases in avg earth temps, not preceded! In fact, there is a lag of a few thousand years.
Timeline begins on the right of the graph and moves back in time as you move to the left. Note that blue(temp) spikes nearly always precede(are further to the left) of the red(CO2) spikes.
Never heard that one before. However, I have heard the one about that happening with the moon. That it is slowing spiraling away from the earth. And since the moon stabilizes our 23.5 deg angle of tilt, we will eventually wobble uncontrollably, as Mars does. In other words, the equator will ultimately, at least for a time, switch places with the poles.
As for the earth drifting away from the Sun, it is currently believed that, in about 4 or 5 billion years from now, the Sun will enter its Red Giant phase, swell enormously and engulf the inner planets (Mercury to perhaps Mars).
We did. However, I wasnt able to post at the time. And, now that I am, I wanted to get the info out regarding the vastly different CO2 concentrations on the two planets: 95-96% vs 0.038 for Earth.
Jane Fonda sounds climate change alarm in Toronto
The Star ^ | July 4, 2015 | Christopher Reynolds
"The climate change problem is the issue of our civilization. It will affect everything about our lives if we don't do something about it," she [Jane Fonda] says.
The environment is suffering damage that could be irreversible global warming, the greenhouse effect, the melting of the polar ice caps, the rising sea level, hurricanes with terrible social occurrences that will shake life on this planet.
I believe this idea has a strong connection with reality. I dont think we have much time. Fidel Castro said in one of his speeches I read not so long ago, tomorrow could be too late, lets do now what we need to do.
I believe it is time that we take up with courage and clarity a political, social, collective and ideological offensive across the world a real offensive that permits us to move progressively, over the next years, the next decades, leaving behind the perverse, destructive, destroyer, capitalist model and go forward in constructing the socialist model to avoid barbarism and beyond that the annihilation of life on this planet.

Bin Laden blasts US for climate change
CAIRO Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has called for the world to boycott American goods and the U.S. dollar, blaming the United States and other industrialized countries for global warming, according to a new audiotape released Friday.
In the tape, broadcast in part on Al-Jazeera television, bin Laden warned of the dangers of climate change and says that the way to stop it is to bring the wheels of the American economy to a halt.

Well... The atmospheric composition DOES make a big difference. Venus would be hot, but not 900 deg. F hot, were its atmosphere mostly nitrogen and oxygen.
It is important to recognize how Venus has arrived at its present state:

OTOH, it is very doubtful man can mine / pump / frack & burn enough carbon to cause this to happen on Earth. Our temps did not “run away” in a Venus-like manner even when much more CO2 was in Earth’s atmosphere, hundreds of millions of years ago, or more.
Don’t confuse Hawking with real science. He has an agenda to support.
We don’t care Steve. The earth is your God not ours. Now go away.
And Stephen hawking could start walking next week. Both are equally as likely.
I recall he did make a serious blunder regarding some popular theory he came up with a decade or so ago and needed to admit it publicly. I believe this was after he was called out on it by his colleagues privately.
Ralph to Norton: Did you do that (put cigarette lighter up to see the red line) when YOU looked at the
thermometer? (Norton had just told Ralph his (Ralph's) temp was "111")
Yeah, I don’t see it gaining any traction. He’s going to have to stand down.
Earth will be a better place when Hawking’s wheelchair loses its brakes in a New York rush hour.
Hawking has always been ridiculously overrated. He is also viciously anti-Israel — despite being kept alive by Israeli drugs
Not unless we move closer to the sun.
Or go from a 0.038% CO2 atmosphere to a 95% one like Venus.
Ef him and the wheelchair he rode in on!
