Stephen Hawking: Earth could turn into hothouse planet like Venus

Earth could turn into a hothouse planet like Venus, with boiling oceans and acid rain, if humans don't curb irreversible climate change, physicist Stephen Hawking claimed in a recent interview.

"We are close to the tipping point, where global warming becomes irreversible. Trump's action could push the Earth over the brink, to become like Venus, with a temperature of 250 degrees [Celsius], and raining sulfuric acid," he told BBC News, referring to the president's decision to pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate deal.

As I have heard this ridiculous (Earth to Venus) comparison made before, I would like to take this opportunity to point out to anyone who doesn’t know, the following...

“The atmosphere of Venus is composed of 96.5% carbon dioxide, 3.5% nitrogen, and traces of other gases...”

Meanwhile...

It wouldn’t matter if the atmosphere of Venus had no CO2. The atmospheric pressure on Venus is 90 times that of earth. That’s why it’s so hot there.

Venus is like a comet, it has a tail. We just don't see it anymore, but in past times it has appeared very different in the night sky than now, there are a lot of hypothesis, like the electrical nature of venus and its tail in this attached link , but no doubt it has a tail and you would think Hawkings should know there is something different going on with Venus than just a greenhouse effect .,. Oh how the mighty have fallen, and how the public trust in its science leaders have failed !

I've never bought this notion that Steven Hawking is the most brilliant man on Earth. I think it arose more from the novelty of his being a noted physicist while also suffering from a severe handicap, which provided many the opportunity to display their "enlightenment" by making him a hero.

Based upon his absurd statement about Earth vs. Venus, he may have just ironically demonstrated himself to be one of the dumbest people on the planet.

You don't think an atmosphere of 95-96% CO2 would lead to a *legitimate* runaway greenhouse effect? Contrast that with a less-than measly 0.038% CO2 on earth! Also, a day on Venus is longer than its year! This is because it takes 246 (earth) days to rotate on its axis and 227 days to orbit the sun. In other words, one side of Venus does not receive direct sunlight for months.
