SDF = Syrian Defense Force (Syrian Kurds, Assyrian Christians, MMC Arab Militias) over 80,000 men and women

YPG is the men’s side of the Syrian Kurdish Forces

YPJ is the women’s side of the Syrian Kurdish Forces

YPG and YPJ are about 1/2 half of the total soldiers in the SDF

There are a number of Arab Militias that are in the SDF. They are local Militias and are 100% cooperative with the Kurd side of the military.

The Kurds and later the SDF have avoided conflicts with the Syrian Military. Both the SAA and the Iranian forces supporting the SAA. but I must admit some of the Iranian Forces have had conflicts with the SDF. The Iranian forces supporting the SAA are a major part of the Syrian Military Force (Syrian Arab Army).

None of these groups are Islamists (except some of the Iranian Militias) and none sought outright overthrow of the Syrian Government. Many of them would prefer not to have Assad running the country but know a major military is necessary to protect them from neighboring countries who would quickly conquer them. (Like Turkey)

Now there are other forces holding parts of Syrian soil. These forces are actively seeking to overthrow the Syrian Government: ISIS, al Qaeda, Nusra, Al Sham, Saltan Muriat and FSA (Free Syrian Army). (Saltan Muriat Militia and FSA are affiliated with Turkey)

Past that there are other Militia groups in some parts of Syria.

There have been recent defections of members of both Saltan Muriat Militia and FSA that have changed sides and joined the SDF. (this has given mixed results, they tend to be less reliable soldiers. I’ve heard issue with their performance in Raqqa. They are motivated by the paycheck not the desire for freedom of their people.

There, have I totally confused you? Sorry. smile

SDF have NO Jihadi’s. PERIOD.

They are all secular as far as religion is concerned.

Kurds in the group have a long history of that in Syria. Kurds in Iraq are largely Muslim. In Syria they are a mixture based on where they are. Muslim, Christian, Ezidi, Atheist. I could throw percentages at you, but won’t. It would be wrong whatever I gave you. I’ll only make a statement that there are far more Christians than appear to be there. There are historic reasons for those vague issues. These people have survived many instances of bad/corrupt/despotic governments. They have seen many Massacres and Genocides. (not overstated)

I know some of the Syrian Kurds very well. Have for a number of years. They are clearly some of the most honest and kind people in the Middle East. (I don’t want to argue about that in the distant past, although that is a serious issue.)

FSA are CIA cutouts. They have routinely transferred US materiel to IS et al - with the knowledge of the US government. Obama, McCain, Patreaus, Clinton, to name a very few.

Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are mainly YPG (Kurds) and Jaysh al-Sanadid, which is another tribe. They oppose IS.

The initial groups of Arabs joining the YPG as the SDF were from Manbij area. Called MMC. A number of others have joined, largely because of efforts to pacify Turkey about loosing Muslim control of the neighborm, Syria. In the beginning there was some distrust but that has largely gone away.

The bulk of the leadership and the troops who handle the tough assault situations are Kurds. They have come to rely more on the Arab units in Raqqa, but it is still mostly Kurds and some Christians who are doing the hardest part of the battles.

All who have been under ISIS or Turkey’s domination, absolutely hate them. Turkey is almost as bad as ISIS. Very little difference. Turkey is partnered with a bunch of Jihadi’s (like Obama’s CIA vermin)

-

YPG/YPJ and SDF have had a variety of Special Op support over time US, British SAS, Iraq PUK and PKK. These are all excellent soldiers. None tougher anywhere. There may be more than that list involved, they don’t broadcast it. It is possible the Polish SF are there, have read they were in Iraq fighting ISIS.

so these guys happen to be your favorite local tribesmen and McCain has his favorite tribesmen, the Pentagon has some other charming natives they like, and the CIA has a fourth group of exotics they favour.

And every one of you swears none of these tribesmen are jihadists

Local Tribes?

In Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and Syria alone; it is estimated there are 30 million Kurds. (Globally 30-32 million) They are not a “local” tribe.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurdish_population

They have historically lived in the region where those countries join. This was an artificial division done by the British after WWI.

They are mountain people and there is a saying among them that the Kurds have no friends but the mountain. Shingal.

If you question that they might be Jihadi’s, simply ask some of the US soldiers who have been around them in Iraq and recently in Syria. They have become well know as reliable allies. And in Iraq and Syria they took great risk to themselves to protect Christians and Ezidi.

In this region, the Armenian Christians, Assyrian Christians, Greek Christians, Ezidi, Alevi, and Kurds have all been on the receiving side of Massacre or Genocide.

The Ottoman Empire and later the Turks have been the worst to employ these methods. And to this date, the Turks deny totally that they did the Armenian Genocide. (some Kurds were part of that genocide, and early admitted doing it as part of the Turkish force. They long ago made peace with the Armenians)

Erdogan is the first Islamist to be in power in Turkey since WWI. He is effectively Dictator of Turkey now. If he stays in power, he will commit genocide again.

Past all of this, I have close Kurdish friends in Syria and I know what that group is like. There are NO Jihadi’s among them. There are some Jihadi Kurds in Turkey, small portion of them, cultivated by Turkey. Kurds in Syria and the Mountain region are secular as far as religion is concerned. There are other issue that are involved here, but I’m confident what I just stated is correct.
