Democrats’ blockade of Trump imperils national security, congressional recess

President Trump may cancel Congress‘ summer recess and demand that lawmakers stick around through August to force Democrats to confirm more of his nominees, the White House said Monday, throwing down a challenge to senators who have tried to obstruct him at nearly every turn.

Democrats have mounted filibusters on 90 percent of the president’s picks that have reached the Senate floor — much higher than the 10 percent rate that Republicans mounted for President Obama’s, the White House said.

Republicans said it is the worst treatment of any president’s nominees in modern political history.

“The president has every right to call Congress back if necessary,” said Marc Short, the White House director of legislative affairs.

The blockade began the day Mr. Trump took office and has continued for the ensuing six months.

President Trump should definitely mandate that both houses stay in session until his legislative agenda is passed.
Moreover, he must insist that the remainder of his appointees are confirmed asap.
Our obviously broken government requires sweeping reform to function in the interest of we the people!!!

Let them go into recess.

Then, the president can do recess appointments which, I believe, are valid for one year.

Democratic obstruction against nominees is nearly total, most notably including a demand for cloture filings for every nominee—no matter how minor the position. This means a two-day waiting period and then another 30 hours of debate. The 30-hour rule means Mr. Trump might not be able to fill all of those 400 positions in four years. The cloture rule also allows the minority to halt other business during the 30-hour debate period, which helps slow the GOP policy and oversight agenda.

Is President Trump the only person in DC who actually works because we know Congress sure as hell doesn’t. I got a feeling he’s about to drop the hammer on these useless idiots. Enough is enough!

Let them have their Recess. Then President Trump can make 250-300 Recess Appointments on the same day.

Then we can all enjoy the biggest melt down in Democrat Party history.

The Republicans take control of the House and the Senate, install gutless spineless leadership AND THE RATS ARE STILL IN CONTROL. As Rush says "Why vote for Republicans?"

That's a whole lot of obstruction by senator FChuck.

If we spend the next 3 years getting nothing done, it’s still better than what got done over the past 8 years. I can be content with government paralysis.

Love it!!

So what if they’d expire in, what, three years? It would get rid of the 0bozo holdovers.

Brilliant!

I’d say they are members of the Federal Government Party - as are many Democrats. The Federal Government Party, just like the Communist wing of the Democrat Party, is adamantly opposed to the mere existence of Donald Trump - leaving perhaps 25% of the Senate as Trump allies.

Couldn’t McConnell and the GOP who (supposedly) control the Senate change that cloture rule?

I realize that’s a total order; we’re talking about the squish Mitch and his not-so-merry band of GOPe back stabbers.
