Cheri Glankler has been rescuing dogs for 20 years the last five of those spent in Garden Valley so the elderly retriever that ended up in her care in late June was nothing out of the ordinary. At least initially.
From the outset, the dog looked rough. She was found collapsed on a ranch off Idaho 55 near Horseshoe Bend and brought to Glankler covered in fleas and ticks.
Please share if you know someone is missing her, Glankler wrote in a Facebook post in the Lost Pets Boise page.
But Glankler had a hunch about who might be missing the dog. And the internet did, too.
Right away, comments started pouring in on Glanklers post: Could this be Mo, a dog lost in the area last fall?
Mo, a 12-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, had gone missing September 13, 2016, between Horseshoe Bend and Placerville. A former hunting dog, Mo still accompanied her owners, Darwin and Cindy Cameron, on hunting trips and relaxed in their camper. Somehow on the September trip, Mo was let out of the camper and took off in search of Darwin.

Just like the movie, “Homeward Bound”! Shadow, the golden retriever made it home.
There’s a lot to be said for chipping them.
Good dog. I like Chessies. In the full story it talks about how she chases squirrels. I think I can guess what sustained her.

So true. These days, it is pretty simple and inexpensive to chip them. Our dog and our cat are both chipped.
What’s this “chip them” thing about? Does it apply to humans? I had to chipper someone once, but that’s a whole story I don’t like to get in to.
Mark of the BEAST!!!
Those SOB’s can chip My COLD, DEAD BODY!!! (After I fill as many as possible with hot lead!)
?”Fargo”?
Interesting story. Probably survived by hooking up with a pack of feral dogs.
In case you are not just joshing with me: They can insert a microchip under the pet’s skin. When an animal is found lost the chip can reveal contact information for the pet’s owner.
(Too skeert to ask you what you mean by chippering someone.)
Not a lot of feral dogs running around ID. And if there were they would not provide a survival benefit. Probably survived by eating a bunnies and losing a lot of weight.
Wow, what an incredible story. And she is old, even less equipped to deal with harsh conditions. I am thrilled for her, that she can spend her remaining years with her beloved owners, and I am thrilled for her owners. I would be going crazy if my cats were lost in the wilderness, or even the neighborhood. Right now, Zizu is busying herself stealing cash register receipts I was going over, and running away with them. A mighty hunter!
Amazing!
And it’s not that expensive, mine is a 10 lb Morkie 1/4th Maltese, 3/4th Yorkie, looks like a Yorkie, shorter hair, all the terrier charter too, digs up moles, got a squirrel as long as she is. Had it done when she was spayed at 3 months.
Unless you plan to breed have your pets neutered too.
A wonderful ending!
