Norkea is an appendage of China. Norkea is the puppet on the hand of Xi held way out to hi the side.

Good questions. I doubt we will get the answers.

China and North Korea are one and the same. They have some sort of mutual defense treaty. Nork is acting at China’s behest.

Someone here on FR pointed out than when China wants concessions from the US, the Norks act up, we beg China to bring them into like and then reward China for restraining them...

Yawn. BMD is already obsolete.

Kim’s missiles are a grand distraction if their intent is to genuinely use nukes against the US.

Darn Eskimos. Didn’t realize they were so technologically advanced.

“the ICBM travels almost ten times that at 22,000 fps.”

Which means shrapnel from an ABM hits it at that speed, ripping holes in it.

Less known to most folks is there was a Second Korean Conflict from 1966-1969:

Even less known is the simple fact that the 1950-1953 Korean war was never declared over. We have been and still and are at a legally declared state of war with NK since 1950.

I believe this gives a US president the legal right to flatten everything from the DMZ to the Yalu river. Not that it would be a good idea, but under the War Powers Resolution of 1973, he has the authority.

Hi there, nully.

You are correct—we are still in a state of conflict with North Korea. We only have an armistice in place from 1953.

No peace treaty.

Which means the fusing from the ABM explodes after the missile has passed (because it is calculated at about 600 fps meetings) rendering the engagement useless.

That might be the only way to keep an artillery and missile strike from obliterating Seoul. Hit first with everything you have at all the artillery and missile sites and hope you got them all. Counter-battery the hell out of anything that barks afterward.

Perhaps. There are other ways to render them useless. But that would require destabilizing the NK leadership, and we would never destabilize a foreign government...

Imagine a deal where the Koreas are reunited.

North Korean military brass become rulers of various city/regional fiefdoms this wealth and power gives them incentive to go along with the plan.

South Korean and Chinese businesses get access to cheap and incredibly compliant labor, and the new markets these newly paid workers represent.

Even at minimal labor rates the typical North Korean peasant rapidly becomes wealthy beyond their wildest imagination. More food than they could ever have seen, better clothes, warmer houses, bicycles, motor scooters and perhaps even a (Hyundai or Kia) car.

And even with a minimal skim the former Brass could live like gods. If they play their cards right, tie themselves to the prosperity in the peoples' eyes they could be much loved and politically successful.

Little Kim could even survive the transition if he gets ahead of it and is seen as a savior, but more likely he'll end like Benny the Moose or Ceaușescu, reunification or no.

...pretty sure that’s what our satellites provide. They detect launches, determine trajectory, etc. - feed that into a response system and you’re good to go.

Given the Israeli “Iron Dome” system I’ve no doubt that such capability is feasible.

Gosh mister, I sure hope they are smart enough to do the boom in front of the incoming missile rather than after they pass each other.

Perhaps you should tell them?

I neglected to define ABM as an Air Breathing Missile:

I have a crazy theory:

First, a society that still uses hammers to turn rocks into gravel is not capable of developing an ICBM.

So, somebody...China and/or Russia is helping the Norks make these weapons.

Why? They want to know what our capabilities are...what are RADARs and who knows what else on the Aleutian islands can do, how quickly they can id a missile, track it, and ultimately attempt to destroy it.

I presume our military will not use its full capabilities against these 'demonstration' launches...so we do our own 'demonstration' launch and counterbattery instead.

Part 1 of this still nags at me though...are our good buddies the Russians helping the Norks? I remember in the early years of Iraq, our tanks were getting destroyed by a Russian made ATGM, that was invented AFTER international sanctions were imposed against Saddam. Yet somehow, our pals the Russians had managed to accidentally export their top of the line missile to our most likely adversary...and gather valuable test data on it. I'm starting to not trust those ex-Soviets.

“yes, it was a test missile to show the NK dope that the THAD system will work to thwart any nuclear missile they try to target us with.”

This wasn’t THAAD, which can’t intercept ICBMs. This was GMD. It’s good to see that this $40 billion system actually works some of the time...

Still, a demo with days or weeks to prepare for a launch at a known time from a known location, towards a known target is not quite the same as for an unexpected hostile act with a 45 minute notice-to-intercept threshold.

And an enemy never attacks when it’s convenient...

...or expected!

True, however the problem with Chinese ICBM’s is that THEY have MIRV’s. From a quick search I see that Our Trident III ICBM’s can carry 12 Independent Warheads so that means the important thing is to stop the ICBM in the ascent stage of flight before it can begin the deployment of the Warheads. I’m not sure about the Chinese capabilities so I’ll PING the best I know here on FR for more info.

Thank You in advance OM and Thank You again for Your Service!
