Michael Doran made the remarks at the Hudson Institute in Washington, DC, where he is a senior fellow on Middle East security and was a panelist for a discussion at the institute on Russian meddling in the U.S. 2016 presidential election. The conversation quickly shifted to Trump and his campaign’s relationship with the Russians and the ongoing investigation into it.
“What we have is a coordinated attack between elements of the press, elements in the bureaucracy and then sitting — during the transition — and now former Obama officials weaving this vast Trump-Putin conspiracy theory, which doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.”
Panelist David Tafuri, former State Department legal counsel, argued that, although there is no evidence of collusion between Trump and the Russians, evidence could be unearthed by special counsel Robert Mueller, who was named by the Department of Justice to look into ties between President Trump’s campaign and Russian officials.
But Doran said that Russians meddling into U.S. elections and government has been going on for years, including the eight years that President Barack Obama was in charge of protecting the nation from its enemies.
“We knew the Russians were involved in all kinds of nefarious actions and we did nothing until December 29th [2016] just before the Trump inauguration,” Doran said. “One of the psychological benefits to the Democrats of this Russian collusion nonsense is that it has completely white-washed the appeasement of the Russians by Obama.

I think that the political climate is such that Trump can now safely shut down the Mueller “investigation.” The drive-bys, CBC, BLM, Antifa and other fellow travelers will pi$$ and moan for a while, but it would soon die down.

I think that the Democrats have a lot more to worry about from an Independent Counsel on a fishing expedition. I’d leave him in place. Think back to Ken Starr asking for expanded authority to pursue information developed regarding Lewinski. That was Starr asking for the additional jurisdiction.
I wonder if Sessions, or his deputy could direct the Special Counsel to examine other areas. Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton’s agreement/quid pro quo is foremost. But then an examination of corporate efforts to influence the election (Democrats opened the door with Russia, but the concern is about influence from improper sources, which could be foreign or domestic). Specifically, Google, and the effect of deliberate conditioning of search engine results to affect information to the electorate in advance of the election. I have a very strong suspicion that they put their thumb on the scales and emphasized negative news about Trump, and de-emphasized negative news about Clinton. That would be an in-kind contribution from a corporate donor. When you look at contributions from individuals who work at Google and other Silicon Valley ventures, they are overwhelmingly tilted in favor of Democrats. What is to say that they wouldn’t tweak the search algorithm during the campaign to favor the candidate they personally support?

The Trump/Russia “collusion” non story has been covered extensively from every angle. But this is one point that’s not stressed often enough:

Any politician, at this stage in the game, who looks straight into the camera and states that the collusion of the Trump campaign with the Russians deserves to be investigated is a corrupt POS. Are you listening Trey Gowdy?
Do these people ever, EVER ask themselves just how it is that the Trump campaign would have the Russians do something in the campaign that they could do much better themselves. Or, exactly, how did the Russians reach final expertise in American electioneering, expertise that made the geniuses in Clinton’s campaign look stupid.
Did Trump actually call up Putin and say: “Hey, could you trick Hillary into neglecting Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan?” Putin respond: “Certainly. Anything else?”
Sue Trey is listening, he announced his committee would not need to look into the matter because there was already plenty on investigation to cover it.
Mueller is there to erase the Hillary/DNC connection period. If Someone in the Trump organization is framed well that is a bonus.
Tom Bolton made an ass of himself all day saying the President was lied to and he is too naive know it. He never once included the fact that Putin demanded they show proof of their claim. Why has no one asked who Putin was helping? Why is it assumed Trump was the one helped?
