The stories I have read about police touching or inhaling the dust from fentanol or a fake version of it have either had milder symptoms where Narcan wasn’t needed or an extremely fast and deadly reaction

The street drugs out there are nastier than ever

It’s pretty bad here too. I still have sympathy for any, otherwise upstanding citizens, who became addicted due to prescription pain killers. IMHO, these people have the highest probability of turning their lives around, after an OD gives them a wake-up call.

We were discussing police and EMTs — if Narcan (or the like) makes their job a little safer, I’m all for it. BTW, there’s a new nasal-spray version available — no needle skills required for self-administration.

The DEA has guidelines for personal protective equipment when law enforcement are working possibly being near fentanyl. Mere dermal contact is all that is necessary. In one case, an officer got a small amount of powder on his shirt after an arrest. He brushed it off of his shirt, not knowing what it was, and went into an instant overdose. While the sheriff’s view of addicts is understandible, when his deputies are around powerful opioids he should consider this to be a hazmat situation as well.

I agree with you.
It’s about us, not them.
Who denies a person a cure to stay alive?
This is not about what they’ve done to hurt themselves and how they will most likely continue. That’s on them.
This isn’t Saudi Arabia. Those are OUR children killing themselves with drugs. We cannot turn our backs on them, no matter how evil and disgusting they have become. Saving one is worth the trouble of every one of them.

There are many things to be done to stop this epidemic. But there’s not a druggie alive that will be scared by the threat of a sheriff that won’t carry Narcan.

Extend the principle to shot felons. Around 90% of homicide VICTIMS in major cities have criminal records.

One doesn’t need needle skills for the old version. It’s an IM pop

Explain to me exactly how Narcan makes a police man’s job safer

How is a drug addict going to pay the cost?
*************
They always somehow find a way to get the money for the drugs..

I think every fatass on this thread should be denied medical help. When having heart attack or stroke and ambulance show up they see you fat they drive away. Why should we spend money on you? When you stuffing face while fat you knew risks.

“One doesn’t need needle skills for the old version. It’s an IM pop”

True — good point. Nevertheless, many people are more reluctant to use a needle, rather than a spray.

“Explain to me exactly how Narcan makes a police man’s job safer”

Easy — if a cop accidentally touches, or inhales fentanyl; or if he/she is jabbed by an addict, having Narcan handy can save his/her life.

Genocide? That insults anyone that has been murdred in a genocidal purge. No one forces these people into drug usage. No one killed them. The vast majority of the people, say 99.9%, in Butler County do not kill themselves via drugs or anything else despite jobless,, poverty, etc. Your premise is ridiculous and is the basis for all sorts government meddling.

BTW. It is hard to find people to work in that part of Ohio because of the opiod usage. Many of those druggies know how to game the temp agencies and drug tests so that they can work long enough to get a check and get high. So if I can find a clean hardworking immigrant in Ohio they will get the job over a lazy US citizen drug crazed moron.

Same with people who smoke.

And those who don't eat enough fiber.

I’m all in on that but then I do not see a constitutional reason or any need at all for government provided medical care.

They are not my children. When your say “OUR”’children do you mean yours or someone in your family? I have no obligation to save anyone though I would under the right circumstances. I would never obligate of force someone else to save someone.

No problem with that. Drugs should be subject to supply and demand like any other product. Can’t see any reason why the government should be causing artificially high prices.

If your goal is to end unapproved by the government drug usage then just shoot anyone found using or carrying those drugs. How serious are you about letting the government control what people do with their own lives,?

Use drugs if you wish and live with the consequences but criminality should not be one of them.

I was just think that exact thought.

What about the after effects of a seizure, insulin shock, stroke, myocardial infarction...There are other conditions that could easily confuse the medically untrained.

“Can’t see any reason why the government should be causing artificially high prices.”

Really? In each state that legalized marijuana, the tax burden is huge, making illegal versions look much cheaper and, since the drug is legal, it becomes nearly impossible to identify if it was legal or illegally bought.

Would be for legalizing all drugs if we:

1. Had no insurance or social net to pay for those who used them.
2. Could hold users responsible for all crimes committed under their influence as being “premeditated.”
3. Have a torture penalty that allowed for punishments three-fold worse, back on the perpetrator.
