Seeking U.S. ties apart from Trump, Trudeau will be first PM to address governors’ meeting

Seeking influence with U.S. leaders who are not President Donald Trump, Justin Trudeau will be the first Canadian prime minister to deliver a speech to a major conference of American state governors.

Trudeau will give the keynote address at the National Governors Association meeting in Providence, Rhode Island next Friday, just over a month before the expected opening of North American Free Trade Agreement renegotiation talks.

Trudeau’s address will focus on trade, his government said in a news release, and he “will also emphasize the importance of the Canada-U.S. partnership in cross-border security and the potential for common solutions on climate change.”

The address is part of Trudeau’s effort to build relationships with U.S. officials at the state and local levels. On the whole, state governors are far more pro-NAFTA than Trump, who calls the deal a “catastrophe.”(continued)

If I was a citizen who was in one of the states in attendance I would file an injunction suit since it is unconstitutional for a State to engage in Foreign Policy.

One would think that Canadians would be hesitant to deliver a bitter insult to the 60+ million Americans who voted for President Trump.

Obviously, that would be giving them too much credit.

a former Canadian PM, Kim Campbell, also meddled in our election. A month before the election, she had a news conference and publically labeled Donald Trump “a sexual predator”. That was a clear attempt to influence the outcome of a US election by a representative of a foreign government.

36 Republican governors, 16 Democrats and one “Independent” who says Alaska is still focused on addressing climate change. (Apparently they don’t make AK governors like they used to.) So with Republicans outnumbering Dims by more than 2 to 1 the Trudeau child may be in for an interesting time.
