Trump Donates Presidential Salary To Restoring Civil War Battlefield

President Donald Trump is donating his first quarter’s salary to restoring historical structures at the Antietam National Battlefield — a Civil War site and stage of the bloodiest single day battle in U.S. history.

Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke announced Trump’s $78,333 donation Wednesday in front of crowd gathered at Antietam. Trump’s salary will go toward restoring the Newcomer House Civil War information center and 5,000 feet of Civil War style fencing.

“I can find no better investment in our country than our battlefields. As a former Navy Seal … It’s preserving our heritage of why we fight,” Zinke said. “We fight for our family, we fight for our friends, we fight for our country, and we fight for freedom. And no doubt, the area around us is a kind of reflection as all of our children, our children’s children will walk through these grounds and realize what a great country we restored.”

An anonymous donor added $22,000 to Trump’s donation to make the total a little more than $100,000. Other private donations from the Civil War Trust, National Park Foundation, and Save Historic Antietam Foundation equaled $263,545, Zinke announced.

Oh sure. No doubt he wants to build a 200 story luxury hotel nearby and he's buying off the locals with this donation. At least that's the way the lefties will portray it. Or that the funds will only be used for confederate things and CSA soldiers that belonged to the kkk. Yeah, southern dementocrats. Thank you President Trump.

What a wonderful thing Trump just did - especially in light of the left’s insistence on removing statues or evidence of any history they don’t like.

Props, President Trump, props.

CNN has a story about this..of course half of it is about the Sierra Group bitching how it is only a symbolic gesture and how Trump has proposed cuts to the park services.

Whoops...just saw this story has inserted the same Sierra Club quotes.
If you gave these people a bottle of water in the desert they’d ask where the cup was...

God bless that man!

There was a rumor yesterday about increasing taxes on the rich. THIS is SUCH a better way to win the populist vote and do good works at the same time.

Sure sounds like former USN Seal Zinke is also “embarrassed” by his boss /sarc

If the Sierra Club is bitching then it’s more winning!

This is so much better than the trial balloon of Trump raising taxes on the ‘evil rich’.

Next step is to convince ‘evil’ businesses to join him in press releases of donations to charities. He could make big press events out of charities by the wealthy. We can’t afford to keep hiding their generosity. Let the voter know.

Our president is very smart and will get more support than he imagined. He sees this revisionist crap for what it is and will make sure Southern history will not be forgotten. Of course he will be called racist but I’m sure he’ll consider it a badge of honor. Thank you President Trump.

Trump is criticized for making a generous charitable donation while Barack and Michelle Obama pocketed every cent and partied like rock stats on the taxpayer’s dime.

One forgotten story about “the One” was how his 2008 campaign advisors had to encourage him to open up his checkbook and increase his philanthropic giving because his meager donations made him appear to be stingy which is never a good thing for a candidate.

Obama felt entitled, but the Left will never admit that he engaged in excessive personal spending throughout his presidency while much of America was suffering through hard economic times.

Are you sure it’s NOT Isis that’s tearing them down?
